  1. Just wondering if anyone knows aything about this kid. Trent Zomer-194cm, 94kg-Eastern Rangers. (Fwd) Spends a bit of time rucking but will never be an AFL ruckman. It has been up forward he has sown his best form in recent times. Very good sized body. Leads up well and has strong hands. He is a good shot at goal. Pick 50 plus. I haven't seen him play and he is expected to go late, but he sounded alright from this write up. Could be a reasonable pick up with our fourth round pick (53?). Just wondering if anyone had an opinion of him or any other possible late round draftees.
  2. http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,2...9-11088,00.html Click on the link above and you will find that John Meesen has been a little bit stupid. I mean, who posts pornographic pictures on facebook when they are trying to get a new club (Melbourne) to take a punt on them. I hope this is just a one off thing and that he isn't an idiot. However, the comment at the bottom where he said he didn't realise facebook was public doesn't give me too much confidence. That said, I still want him at Melbourne next year because he is so cheap and obviously has some potential.
  3. http://www.afl.com.au/Season2007/News/News...px?newsId=52247 Click on the link above and it will take you straight to the article on the afl website regarding each clubs philosphy on trade week and drafting. If we're looking at trading players for picks it appears Port Adelaide are quite keen. However, they do have a very late first round pick. Also, it seems Sydney are keen to trade but also want to keep their first round pick. Most clubs seem to want to keep their picks for the draft. I'm starting to think that this draft isn't as weak as everybody makes it out to be, rather that it is just very even and hard to judge. Meaning, CAC could pull soemthing golden late. ala Bartram
  4. I find it hard to believe that we could not fit Chris Judd into the salary cap, considering that players such as Byron Pickett and Clint BIzzell who have just retired were being ridiculously overpaid.
  5. I was just on the website www.thedrafter.net when while looking at last year's draft I came across the name Matthew Kreuzer. He wasn't drafted but does anyone know if this is the same player that is touted as the No. 1 pick this year. If so, why didn't Melbourne take a punt and draft him late or rookie list him. Just wondering if anyone knows any more...
  6. My possible trades would be: Johnstone + White to St. Kilda for their first round pick (No. 9) Green + Bruce to Fremantle for their first round pick (No. 7) This may seem harsh trading up Bruce, Green, White and Johnstone.Especially as trading White will leave us without a number 1 ruckman. However, White will retire within a couple of years and does anyone honestly believe we have what it takes to win a flag by then. I would suggest trading to St. Kilda and Fremantle as these are the only clubs in the bottom 8 who would consider themselves a chance to win a flag in the near future and would be looking to 'top up'. I mean, White, Johnstone, Bruce and Green are all quality players. In the draft we could then pick up: Pick 4: Henderson Pick 7: Best available midfielder (hopefully, Ebert/Palmer) Pick 9: Rance Pick 20: McEvoy (if not available then we can hopefully pick up another quality midfield. e.g. Selwood Then in the third round we could address our need for a ruckman by picking up Bellchambers We should use our remaining picks to pick up the best player available and adopt the same method in the pre season draft. This would leave us with a team looking something like this: B: Whelan, Rance, Frawley HB: Bell, Rivers, Petterd C: Palmer/Ebert, Jones, Dunn HF: Bate, Henderson, Sylvia F: Davey, Neitz, Robertson R: PJ, McLean, Bartram I: Moloney, McDonald, Newton, McEvoy
  7. just interested as to how many votes you have given Jonathon Brown. He's kicked about 33 goals or something in the last 5 weeks and thought he might be a nice outside bet for top 5.
  8. Agree that Kruezer is the best option...if he is available. He's been touted as No. 1 pick and I think Richmond have that ties up unless Carlton continue on their woeful ways. There is no way that club is trying to win. How they show so much potential in pre season and early season and then lose the rest of the games. Well, let's just say I'm a little sceptical. Anyway, back to Kruezer...he is the ideal replacement for white when he retires, and pj and jamar being solid back up (neither have the talent to be a no. 1 ruckman at afl level).
  9. Why I can see the similarities between Dunn and players such as Embley, Bruce and O' Keefe, I am hoping (and this is a MASSIVE hope) that Lynden Dunn can follow in the footsteps of Matthew Pavlich. That is, in his younger years when he hasn't got the strength to go with his height, he runs around in the midfield, getting a bit of the ball to boost his confidence and also help him build a big motor so that he can run all day at CHF. After a few years of working in the gym, Lynden Dunn will be big enough and experienced enough to assert himself at CHF. Matthew Bate can be the lead up forward, like Ryan O' Keefe and Newton can be the team's Full Forward who just operates within the forward 50, like Brendan Fevola (but with a decent attitude. I would also like to add that I think Davey should go back to doing the simple things up forward. This season it appears as though he thinks he needs to do more than in the past, but you can not underestimate the importance of a small forward both offensively and defensively, look at his brother Alwyn. We don't have too many out and out small forwards and I think the recruiting department should look at trying to draft one with a late pick or rookie list someone. I think the forward line will look something like this after Neitz retires. Davey, Newton, Robertson Bate, Dunn, ???(Possibly Green or Sylvia)
  10. Agreed, CJ is a great attakcing player, that why I would have him at half back because he is the perfect rebounder, similar to the likes of Hodge
  11. For me Dunn is younger and as more potential than Miller. Miler has had many opportunities to prove himself and has failed to do so on a consistent basis. For me, the starting lineup for Round 1, 2007 would be: B: Whelan, Carroll, Frawley HB: Bell, Rivers, CJ C: Johnstone, McLean, Bate HF: Green, Dunn, Pickett F: Robertson, Neitz, Davey R: White, Bruce, McDonald I: Jones, Sylvia, Moloney, Jamar Note: Bartram would be included in round 1 if he was not injured. Sylvia/Moloney would probably be dropped, although I believe Jamar is the worst player in the team and would drop him except for the need of a backup ruckman. The Backline I think this back 6 could form the nucleus for the melbourne backline for the next 3-5 years. Whelan can take the opposition's best small forward and nullify his game completely. Carroll can take the opposition's main forward for the moment with the view of Frawley taking the main forwrd in the future. Frawley stands at 193cm and 80kg. He definately needs to bulk up but his size is perfect to take the oppostion's BIG, POWERFUL forward in the future. IMO, Holland/Warnock are too slow and their disposal is too poor to make it in today's afl game where speed and disposal are almost musts. I say we blood Frawley this year and let him get used to the pace of the game against the opposition's 3rd and sometimes 4th best forward. Rivers/Bell can rotate who takes the opposition's 2nd best forward depending on size and speed etc. CJ is then the main defensive rebounder with his class, poise and disposal he has the potential to be one of the best flankers in the game for years to come. I think the defence has excellent disposal and is perfect for rebounding and setting up attack, whilst at the same time has great defensive attributes and would be able to contain the opposition's forwards. By letting these 6 play together, we only increase their understading of each other and this can only benefit thei performance. The Midfield The midfield has the perfect balance of skill, toughness and taggers that the midfield needs to be able to shut down the opposition, but at the same time have the ability to attack. The only thing possibly missing is speed, but I think with bartram, bate, davey, bell we have enough to get by with. The Forwards Neitz will again be the focal point and it will be his job to bag a couple of goals per game and make a PHYSICAL presence. Robbo will the second option and he normally has the ability to beat his direct opponent. I think Green should move forward permanently and only move into midfield if the guys are tired or if we need to try something new. He has the disposal and smarts to beat his opponent and i think he is quick enough on the lead to be a dangerous forward. Davey and Pickett provide the crumbing/speed and defensive pressure, Whilst Byron also brings toughness to the team and will be able to bully his opponents and scare them WITHIN the rules. He is no use to us in the stands. Dunn is still young but it is time for him to step up and show that with his footy smarts he can be a star CHF in the future once he builds up a bigger body. Interchange The bench is made up of midfielders and the back-up ruckman, Jamar. The game is fast paced and midfield rotation is necessary to keep players at peak performance. I also believe we need a back-up ruckman in the team to relieve white or in case he gets injured. Unfortunately, our next best ruckman is Jamar who try as he might can not get a touch and is probably not good enough for afl level. Unless, he can improve greatly i would look at giving PJ a game (dont think he is really a ruckman) or even blooding Neaves (i heard he was pretty good for sandy last year). All in all, I think the team is looking good for the year and top 4 and beyond is definately a possibility. Any comments are welcome... Dees for Premiers 2007
