Is this a sure thing. AFL.com.au and demons.com.au have not mentioned this?

Agreed.

While Byron was extremely disappointing at the MFC, lets not lose sight of the fact that he has had a brilliant career and has achieved a lot.

I wish him all the best for the future, but I think we can all agree that he did not fulfill his commitments to the club.

Spot on, stellar career but his commitment o the MFC was very disappointing indeed.

Pickett joins retirement party

Recruiting Pickett was a risk that could've paid huge dividends, but could also have been a spectacular failure. Turns out in this case it was the latter.

I'm disappointed with the way it turned out, and the blame lays squarely on one man. I don't agree with the "don't let the door hit you on the way out" mentality of Rhino et al but I also don't think he really deserves any thanks for his "service".

How about some congratulations for what was a truly great career, pre-Demon  ?!!!

I agree with you here Nasher, although I did have a bit of the hitting him in the ass with the door mentality, purely for the lack of application he game to this club.

And I was a supporter of his recruitment here as he seemed to fit a void that we needed to fill. Unfortunately that didn't really pan out so well for us.

But his time has come and he has done either the right thing or the only thing, and whichever that may be it will be better for the club in the long run.

Another dud mature-age recruit from the MFC in the last 10 years. Chisholm, Carter, Ellis, Vardy, Heffernan, Moorcroft, Read, Funcke, Cook...the list goes on.

Hopefully we do better with recycled players in this new era.

How do you rate Bizzell and Holland?

FWIW, I though Byron was a risk worth taking and it looked a success half way through year. Really fizzled out after that unfortunately.

Bizz - very good in 2002 and 2003, little value after that although he did get injuries. Has been a handy, serviceable pick-up, though not long term. Definitely not a dud.

Holland - has done some good jobs. Again, a serviceable pick-up. Thought we paid too high a price for him. Not a pick-up you'd gloat about but hasn't been the worst.

Have to agree with most of those except Ellis and Vardy.

Ellis was good for us in 2002, but copped a knee reco at the worst possible time (rd 20) and missed finals and most of 2003.

Vardy was horribly injury prone, but I enjoyed some of his performances - particularly in the 2002 finals series. 5 goals V the Roos.

The recruitment of Funcke, Moorcroft and Carter were laughable.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
