out: watson, hille, pevrill, dyson

in: camporeale, hird, hocking, m johnson

looks like sheedy is trying to sweeten the people at melbourne by these changes against the blues, seriously dropping hille and watson

I do think watson will come in for Hird but i think he is trying to lose this, last time micheal got spanked by fev so i will be interested in seeing if he starts him on fev again.

It's a f*ckin disgrace.

No respect showed to Watson from his coach, soon to be ex-coach. Even if he does come in for Hird, it's crap. Watson has easily been our best midfielder this year and last. Leads us in clearances and hard ball gets. Why even play this stupid selection game? We're 11th playing 2nd last. Hird declares yesterday he won't play, yet they come out and pick him. Who are they trying to fool?

Hille dropped is stupid. His rucking has been outstanding at times this year. And Peverill may also come back in if a couple of blokes drop out, but he doesn't deserve to be dropped either.

Sheedy said after Freo last week, we virtually can't make the finals so he has no choice but to play the kids. Yet brings in Camporeale and Mark Johnson.

I don't understand what's going on with my club at the moment. We seemed to have lost the plot since the Sheedy announcement. Don't even get me started with the fantasy talk about trying to poach either Mark Thompson or Mark Williams to coach. As if those guys would consider leaving their current positions to come to Essendon. It just a waste of time and energy which would be better used trying to find the best canditate that is AVAILABLE.

Ash, whats your opinion on why Essendon move pre-emptively to go public on not renewing Sheedy's tenure? Were they caught up in the Voss hysteria? If their targets are Williams and Thompson then surely they could have sounded them out first prior to causing all the instability with Sheedy. I would not be surprised if the two targets have been on the list for months. <_<

I agree ash, even naming watson as being dropped, even if there was no way hird was to play is a joke, and hille would have a field day v the blues who have no rucks, sorry mate but...... Carn the Blues! :)

Not sure why the announcement was made when it was. Perhaps they were trying to lift the club and players for a run at the finals. A bit of a "do it for Sheedy and Hird" type thing, although it looks like it has back fired with the club looking as unstable as it's been for years.

I don't think Voss was a factor, as the club has said since that they don't want someone without any coaching experience.

Perhaps both Thompson & Williams have been "head hunted" for a while, but I just can't see either of them leaving their current posts to come to Essendon. Essendon aren't a Premiership contender in the near future. Why leave clubs who are?

My number one choice is Mark Harvey, but he looks set to be Fremantles coach. After that, I'll just leave it up to the board to hopefully select the best candidate.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
