Fox/Kayo Footy Shows

Featured Replies

After such a great win, I’ve been watching all the Fox/Kayo footy shows.

Regardless of their views on our game, this is my assessment:

Bounce… Just for entertainment. I can’t take any of them seriously.

First Crack… decent analysis

AFL 360… both Gerard and Gary are good. Razor Ray is excellent

AFL Today… I don’t care what they say. I can’t get past the voices/accents. Elocution lessons anyone?

On the Couch… Jordan Lewis is head and shoulders above the others. Riewoldt is out of his depth. Buckley might be unlikeable, but he is smart. Hawkins is just making up the numbers.

What do you think?

Yes...

I'll watch a bit of 360. But I'm kinda over all of them bar First Crack. They used to say today's newspaper is tomorrow's fish and chips wrapper. That's the way even most AFL games feel - apart from Carlton's collapse (Melbourne comeback) in a month's time all people will remember from the weekend just past is which teams were looking great, good, mediocre or atrocious. So lesser things like a player not shaking an opponent's hand will be even more forgotten.

I agree re Riewoldt. He might be a really nice bloke but looks a school's PE teacher asked to teach year 10 French while Mrs Beauchamp is on maternity leave. And of course no one was recruited because of their understanding of probability, statistics and football prediction. I'm sure ex-players appreciate the skills of players better than most civilians and recount what shellackings were like either side of the ledger. But just cos they could kick 60m goals doesn't mean they know whether West Coast is now better than Carlton or if Freo is better than Hawthorn. (Similarly journos are taught how to find sources and write concisely, not indicators of an improving team.)

Google is now officially hopeless. Who's on AFLToday? Is that on Kayo?

I watch 360, I only watch on the couch if we win, love the bounce because it gives me a laugh, watch first crack if we win, but a show I really enjoy is the tackle on Tuesday nights.

First Crack and On The Couch the only ones worth watching. 360 is good for the meltdowns when teams like Carlton, Essendon etc fail and for the wrap up of the Demons when we win. Everything else is garbage.

Oh and the kids love The Bounce.

I only watch First Crack occasionally. I wouldn't mind catching some Youtube stuff of these others though.

The Bounce confirms only that Andrew Gaze is truly a decent and compassionate human being.

Not sure the relevance for much of its content, nor Bernie Vince’s participation

Agreed!

Riewoldt is absolutely horrid in commentary and maybe worse on panel shows! There wld be 150 ex players who’d offer more than him, it’s an absolute joke.

The Midweek Tackle?

Years ago Jordan Lewis and Jack Riewoldt started appearing on AFL 360 in a weekly segment. Maybe the show had a lot of players turn it down. It sounds like Tony Grieg was so cooperative with helping Packer's idea of one-day cricket take off that he was rewarded an almost unconditional position as a commentator later on. Maybe FoxFooty is as grateful towards Riewoldt.

I watch On The Couch and 360, especially if there is a topic I am interested in (Melbourne playing well/poorly, a coach/club under pressure).

I don't think Hawkins will make it in media. He is far too dry. Listening to him on SEN for Kardinia Park games is enough.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
