Last nights Post-Match Function

I have heard that only four players attended the publicised post-match function in Brisbane last night, and all four had less than 10 games experience.

Can someone who is in Brisbane and went along confirm this?

Added to the shorts issue... doesn't expect speak volumes for how well we are travelling off the field, let alone on it.

Apparently only Garland, Newton and Buckley turned up to the post match function according to Demon Storm on the Match Review thread.

Each of the three boys were interviewed by Fagan. Pretty standard stuff but all four (Garland, Newton, Buckley and Fagan) hung around for awhile and spoke in some detail with anyone who was keen.

They should have made the effort to turn up.

I've been to post match-functions in Adelaide, where we normally get spanked, and most players eventually make their way in and out of the function. They don't stay long as they fly back the same night, but at least they make the effort.

Really disappointing for the Brisbane supporters who wait all year to watch Melbourne play and meet the players... but hey, at least you got to be in the presence of greatness, given Newton turned up

Juice seemed quite humbled by the experience - thrown a little I think by the fact so many people living up here seemed to already know so much about him.

I heard Crackers Keenan on radio last week suggest that he could "talk himself up a bit" which concerned me a little but he seemed anything but that last night claiming he just wanted to keep his possie in the team. He certainly came across as very level-headed. The same could be said of Garland and Buckley. We had a very skinny spine playing last night.

it was good to meet the new stars of mfc, , though i thought frawley,jones, bate also missing from the young stars list, and good for deb to give them a letter to pass on to Neale as well

It was not good enough on the clubs part. Cannot blame the young guys. It would be a little daunting for most young people to have to front a crowd. Should have bought Bruce and Green up to do this duty if the playing seniors were not up to attending.

I suspect there will be a lot of complaints to the club and that we will see an apology on the MFC website in due course.

Totally agree. The MFC Admin has slipped back in 2007 also! Have been signs of less effort to encourage the average supporters all year. Think that MFC Admin thought that they'd done enough by gettting the AFL to accept the MCC/MFC reduced memberships in the membership totals in 2007.

Doesn't make any sense at all. Firstly is once a year opportunity for Qld members to meet the players and have a function. Secondly as the club in same week announced promotion moving into 150th year in 2008 should be doing everything possible to encourage existing supporters this year!

I don't see the need for wild speculation Tony. The MFC Admin staff do not think that.

Can't find any apology !!!!!!!

I gave up going to aftermatch functions some time back for this very reason. Would rather have a drink in the Hassett Room after a home game with good atmosphere, friends and also get some players turn up.
