Music Recommendation thread for off-season Boredom

Featured Replies

I was so looking forward to seeing Judith Hill in May this year...been wanting to see her for a long time now.

Email just received...tour cancelled.

Not the news I wanted...

Just stumbled upon a couple of Dj’s from Europe, Don’t Blink tech house type of thing. I can’t dance, don't like dancing but they make me want to dance.

being a melbourne person, i am of course a triple r listener

breaking and entering for new release music

far and wide for uk indie

local and / or general for, well, local releases

maps for interconnected muzak from all over

off the record for the best in roots and country, americana etc.

respect the rock for, well, rock that deserves yr respect

the australian mood for all over the shop from around the country, from new to the past

we are SO LUCKY to have two great independent radio stations in oztraya, in triple r and pbs

Thanks @whatwhat say what really appreciate. Shows saved in my Trello board and starting to work through them.

Thank god for community radio.

Got to see Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings a week or so ago. They just work as one - sublime
Dave has to be one of the best acoustic players on the planet - a 1935 Epiphone as his long time instrument.

My friends the excellent Japanese band Buddhadatta, are playing a handful of gigs in Victoria in Feb and March…try to catch them if you can…

Feb 19th Balnarring Social Club, Feb 20th Shotkickers, Feb 21st Medusa Bar Geelong, Feb 22nd Golden Vine Bendigo, Mar 5th Painted Lady Ballarat, Mar 6th Belgrave Hotel, Mar 7th Spring Ditch Beechworth.

If Buddhist chants and hard rock is your thing, this trio might just be what you’re looking for 😉. Tell them I (Tim in Sydney) sent you.

Unfortunately Buddhadatta got turned back by customs in Cairns as they had the wrong visas (they admitted it was due to their own carelessness). They are now back in Japan considering what to do next.

Been watching Scrubs again and there is a song that came up, Good Time by a guy called Leyroy which I gotta say is a ripper tune! The whole album pretty enjoyable to listen to also, starts getting very "90s pop rock" but hey, still that song is a ripper and well produced too.

We're in the northern rivers NSW, so up to the gold coast to see them.

That sucks. Hope they're not touring the US 😜

Have seen Buddhadatta twice now and was planning to go to the Thornbury gig a few weeks ago. Hopefully they will be back later this year.

They are friends of mine and will let me know what their future plans are… they are desperate to get back here asap, but I’m wondering if Australia has some lock out period before they are eligible to reapply to gain admission.

It’s a real worry as I’d hate to be in no fit state (or worse) to meet them when they eventually do return. Seiko san told me that she did consider telling them that she needed to meet with me and my partner, because of my condition.

I’m pretty sure they would give the US a very wide berth considering the state of that nation. Australia is their favourite country as we were the first to take to them with such enthusiasm. The other countries they tend to tour every with any sort of regularity are South Korea and Taiwan.

I guess it depends on what their visa mistake was. Hopefully it is just a case of finding new dates to reschedule rather than something else. Considering they are from Japan it is not a high risk country from an immigration/visa perspective so hopefully it won't be a major issue.

If anyone is interested, I have released a six-pack EP on Spotify and the other platforms earlier this week.

Album called "Words One", Artist's name "Words of the World".

Never done this before so would be very interested in what DL'ers think.

Thought I’d rejuvenate this thread with a song that’s been covered by just about everyone, or so it seems, particularly on those god awful karaoke lite shows such as The Voice and Australian Idol, but never like this.

If you close your eyes, turn the volume way up and just let it ‘flow over you’ (apologies for the new age f*ckery), it just might, like it did me, bring you to tears. For mine, it’s a winner!
