A couple of amazing Classics

Croatian Prog Rock

Hmmph! Triple M play Croatian prog rock all day! 😂

I like clever pop music, harmonically rich and interesting arrangements ...as well as lots of other stuff.

A trivia question '@hardtack '...do you know which member of the Flood played with Skyhooks?

I didn’t know that any of them did, and none of their names strike a chord (pun unintended) when I think of the Skyhooks. I’m pretty sure that they’re a Sydney based band as as I see them listed in gig guides every now and then, often a pub somewhere around the Lidcombe(?) area.

The only former Skyhook I know that’s living in Sydney, is Bob Spencer, and he’s got no connection with them at all.

Actually I think Bob does have a connection.

Pretty sure he was in a band with KB called the Honeymoon.

The Skyhooks connection is James Gillard, the bass player...originally from WA in a band called Western Flyer then in Mondo Rock.

Apparently James filled in for Greg Macainsh when he had suffered some injury (I think wrist or hand).

Ah, I hadn’t realised that Bob was linked (he’s also played with a great little band called Los Romeos Oxidados 😉), and I’d never considered that Greg Macainsh would have sat out injured. Thanks for those snippets!

hAHaha, my comedy list has to wait for approval... considering the previous list.....

Thanks for the introduction to some new material and a reprise of some.

I think I may have seen Ozgur Baba at Womad, or at least someone very similar.

I predominantly listen to recently released music - music by recent/new bands, or new music from bands that have been around for a while.

One of my go to sources for new music, particularly from new artists, or artists I don't know, is the line-up at Golden Plains each year.

It's announced in aprox mid November, and I do a deep dive on all acts for aprox 5 months (GP is in March, on the Labor day weekend).

Those i really dig stay on my listening rota post GP.

I've been to all but one Golden Plains and IMHO next year's line-up is one of, if not the best, ever.

If interested in hearing some new music, the line-up includes some terrific newish international and local acts.

This sequnced playlist has a track from each of the 28 acts playing at GP 2026*.

Each track, bar 2 or 3, was released in the last year or so.

(* as a card carrying pedant, I'll note that i couldn't find a track by two of the DJs playing, Ok Williams and Pacquito Gordon, so i selected a deep track for each from a set list from one of their gigs).

I’ll be playing guit/keys with Marlon at GP, Bin. If you jump up on stage I’ll vouch for you.

Awesome.

At some point over the weekend I always wear my dees guernsey

I'll make sure I'm wearing it during Marlon William's set.

I can almost guarantee that if you look out at at the crowd and see some wacka in a short sleeves dees guernsey it will be me!

Always love seeing Autechre out in the wild. Chiastic slide is one of my favourite albums.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
