For readability it might be easier to amend this to only reflect teams with draft selections inside the top 30. It gets a bit messy seeing clubs mentioned in there as having multiple picks etc then only one pick reflected due to the methodology.

2025 AFL Draft - Melbourne Demons Focus

Highly recommend watching this MFC draft focus from Jess at True Footy and Dylan Alexander, some very good analysis and a pretty decent understanding of where we sit. Have around 20 mins spare, it's pretty in-depth compared to a lot of other content out there.

I can never work out how to embed the YouTube videos on here, so someone else feel free to repost the actual video.

They have pretty well gone with my picks. They also went with Cumming but I think he'll be gone by then. I'll try and piece together picks 21 to 31.

They've posted another mock 30 (their final draft) since then where they took some criticism on board and changed it to Grlj and Dovaston. Needless to say, that result would be nuts!

I'm gonna be unpopular but I'm not sold on Grlj a player that finds it hard to find the ball at under 18 level will find it even harder at AFL level.

I don't agree with you, but why would an opinion offend anyone ?

Yep watched this one through the other day! If we're able to nab Grlj I'd be over the moon.

It's worth noting that these boys rate Sharp very high and Jess is a WC supporter so he's chosen Sharp at 2. I rate Sharp but have a feeling WC will go Dursma and CDT, Grilj to Rich, Sharp slides to Essendon and Cumming slide to us..

I think there is a very real possibility Essendon go the S.A double to try and mitigate go home concerns. I can see them taking Cummings and Sharp. This would leave us with the chance to take Taylor who is the best available but perhaps not something we specifically need.

Hope you’re right Ted

Is there any chance we wouldn’t take Grij if he was available at 7 or 8?

It’s probably just my MFCSS talking but I haven’t heard him linked to us in the same way Cumming/Schubert/Dovaston has

Other than Robey he’d be my #1 target

It would be classic Essendon to take 2 mids and not develop them while the very next pick we take Taylor and he becomes a multiple times all australian star player

Sharp is noted as a contested beast...whose "athletic tools are lacking". While he sounds like a good citizen and a great extractor, given the way King wants the game played, isn't this just another Clayton Oliver 2.0. If we are looking to get speed in the midfield, how does this help? Pickett wont develop the tank to play 80-90% midfield time. Rivers is reasonably quick. I would have expected us to be targeting an outside player. Maybe I have misunderstood.

Go listen to DanDoesFooty they had a draft guy on they had WC taking Sharp at 2 but he sounds pretty impressive, said when the game is there to win that’s where he wants to be and when his team is winning comfortably he will just sit on the bench. Averaged 1.5 goals thru the carnival that was up there with the best forwards as well

Based on that video i think we split our second pick. It looks as though the talent is similar after Grijl onwards. So if we can split it we woukd get three quality players, instead of 2

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
