How it might play out if the latest rumours of Essendon obtaining pick 9 from the blues happens, allowing them to pre-emptively take Farrow knowing one we won't take Sharp.

Who do we select outside of Nairn?

One of Grlj, Lindsay, Dovaston, Marsh, O Taylor, Schubert?

Or maybe we've kept our interest in Sharp under wraps and take him?

My initial thoughts were trading pick 8 to Adelaide to 16 + F1 is the play in this scenario, allowing them to land Sharp ahead of Essendon's P9

But given how cheaply Carlton's pick 9 & 11 have gone for, am no longer sure if this is realistic

Is there a chance Essendon go Schubert out of pure desperation? They have Caddy. That's it. Jones can't get on the park and Wright seems to be done. Probably wishful. They can always take him with that Carlton pick.

I don’t see Essendon taking Schubert or Sharp ahead of us unless they like both, in which case they’ll have to take one of them. They’re in a good position to take someone else and let the guys we aren’t keen on slide.

I’m even worried they’ll take Nairn, although they do have some similar types.

Oof. Geeze. That would be interesting. I wonder what we'd do in that case.

Probably thank Essendon and take whoever unexpectedly slides in place of him

Perhaps the thought of us trading with Adelaide may spook essendon into taking Sharp first.

We probably need to throw something back towards Adelaide and as it stand we don't have a future 2nd. 2027 2nd maybe? Probably unlikely.

I've read rumours that Sharp, Farrow and Schuburt have been linked to Adelaide. Very curious to see Cals phantom tomorrow because I have no idea what's happening.

Edit: legible english

It would lock in one of Farrow or X Taylor, maybe both but I doubt we take 2 defenders. Not sure who our next mid/forward is to go with the defender.

see i think ess is trading up for farrow at 11 because surely we wouldn't let sharp slide past us given our need for midfielders, but it is true we like versatility

in which case if we hate sharp and grjl then i don't have a clue who we take with nairn other than farrow but if the dons know that and go him early then i am just so confused coz it wont be pickett/dovaston/schubert so maybe lindsay?

We could trump Carlton's 9 by offering 8 to Essendon for 21, 27 and 30.

Then we could offer 27, 30 and 37 to Gold Coast for 15 which is a very nice points bonus for them.

That would leave us with 7, 15 and 21 before bids which might be a better spread than currently.

I quite like this and protects our two future 1sts. All down to where the club rates the players and what they expect to be available at 15, 21.

Draft night is going to be fascinating.

I do too.

But would we still take Nairn as a matter of priority. Or would we take the best player to fall to 7 and then hope GWS leaves Nairn alone?

Think this might be how it goes and it’s the worst possible outcome for us if Grlj and Sharpe slid to us and we have no interest in either.

Essendon have positioned themselves well to have a good draft. I’m hoping either Taylor( very unlikely) or Farrow slide to us.

Is it time to panic?

Nervous The Office GIF

Are we sure we have zero interest in Sharp?

Maybe if we had other options we wouldn't be interested - but if all our other targets are gone do we really just overlook a possession beast with such high calibre so easily?

We lost Clarry, Viney's in the twilight, Steele near the end.. It can't all just be on Langford.

Sharp could very easily be the best available to us if Essendon play funny buggers..

If we haven't already, we better start showing some serious [censored] interest in Sharp right about now

AFL blocked us doing a draft night trade with Adelaide a few years back. The rule is you can’t trade a pick back to a club you received it from (in the same year)

Anyone else be shocked if we passed on sharp. Where is this info even coming from?

Cal Twomey suggesting he could get through our picks on the most recent 'Gettable'

He also noted Essendon 'haven't done as much work' on X Taylor as other clubs (not that it necessarily suggests they won't take him). Some clubs think Essendon are more looking at the midfield options, so that if he got through Richmond he'd get to Melbourne. But he didn't sound all that confident.

Also apparently Essendon have done a lot of work on Shurbert. So is that their plan with 9?

Very good point. 37 from GC is the offending pick right? We could trade it to Richmond for 38 and a 2027 4th 😄

If Sharp was available, Dees would have to strongly strongly consider picking him. We have Viney and Steele for maybe 2 or 3 years. Sharp would be the perfect partner alongside Kozzzy, Langford and Windsor. Sharp simply gets the footy… alot!!! His skills are ok but can work on them. Whilst it hurts losing Clarry, we would replace him with a similar version, 10 years younger !

I’d say there’s zero chance we’d be taking Dovaston if Pickett still on the board, even at Pick 8. Sadly, I think we can put a line through Grlj too.

I can't see us passing on him so easily if somehow every other of our choices are glns.2

Supposedly his greatest asset is his leadership and fight. What rebuilding doesn't value those traits?

Go for Brisbane's pick 17 instead?

Edit: we're giving an excess points equivalent of pick 31, perhaps we can haggle a f3rd out of them as well.

A bigfooty Hawthorn in-the-know poster (yeah yeah I know) suggests a pick slide or future pick trade-in for us to grab Josh Lindsay is a possibility
