Taylor is good at splitting picks and getting two good players. He isn’t always great at getting elite players (Langford firming to be the exception). It is also worth noting that sometimes he is so left field and it doesn’t work. Tholstrup would be the precedent. Nothing I’ve seen from him suggests he will be an A grade AFL player. So, like all drafts, this one is a just a gamble.

Pickett and Oliver were left field picks...and elite players!

What would Twomey know? Has he got a crystal ball? They are just 'educated' guesses and nothing more than that

Some of the nonsense talked about re drafting never ceases to amaze

In 5 years time will anyone even bring up the 2025 draft evaluation as being correct or not. Doubt it

Again, the draftees are just kids and miles off being the finished product

Believe what you want to believe but I'd rather remain a sceptic. The draft is hit and miss at the best of times

But Taylor defies the pattern and is a great asset. So we need to trust him to find the diamonds in the rough

If it was still Barry, forget it. Trade the picks

He know a bit more than you it's his job. You haven't told me why North and Richmond don't want to go through the draft? As what's been said the draft is a gamble. This draft is even more of a gamble. Taylor isn't as good as you think he is. He was great til we won the premiership he's been hit and miss since then.

Oliver was a champion until 2022. He has ruined his legacy with his issues the last 2 years and why we won't get anything back for him which is a shame.

Is Kolt supposed to be A grade at pick 13? You've got high hopes

And Kolt should have been used as a midfielder once the season was shot (post round 5) He was drafted as a mid/forward so where were the mid minutes? We wasted him this year but he's still a youngster

The MC played a whole host of players out of position

For instance, Windsor is a dashing wingman and McVee is a rebounding, attacking half back. Blind Freddy could see that

Goodwin was not the only issue at the club (as we're finding out) but the selection criteria and positional moves were amatuerish

He was used as a pure midfielder in the reserves.

Time to get ruthless Dees.

Trac for pick 7 + Humphrey + Walter

GC might just accidentally say yes during their delirious laughter?

Taylor is no good? He's been nothing short of fantastic, if being 85% plus right with regards to drafting, is an outstanding percentage

You think it's easy, predicting champion status for a teenager?

The revised draft order for every single draft always looks vastly different to the original ... that stat alone should make everyone a sceptic

Again, don't believe everything you're told. Footy is full of lies, always has been

As for believing any comments re drafting players, I take it all with a grain of salt

Everyone keeps their cards close to their chests. i.e. feed 'em the BS

But again, Taylor defies the pattern and I'm sure he'd love having 5 or 6 picks in this year's draft (top 30 picks)

However, I'd trade picks for A Grade or B+ proven players, but they have to be available to trade for. And they can't be too expensive either

And we have to also get hold of the picks

My bet is that we'll be busy come draft day

Throw in Ainsworth for nothing and you have a deal.

So what? It's not the same

We wasted Kolt's time plonking him into a dysfunctional forward line with rubbish delivery into the forward line

What a baptism of fire ... especially when Kolt is not a natural forward

Our MC was clueless when it came to player positions. It's as if they were trying to sabotage our season

Quite right..Tholstrup pick 13 should would be about 5-10 in the upcoming draft. So, if that’s the quality we are going for in return for Tracc, like many think we will settle for, then we are cooked for the next decade.

Reports now coming out that Suns may be open to trading pick 6 with clubs looking to get up the draft order

If Suns are only willing to offer pick 7 (and change), where does that leave us with Trac?

No Melbourne supporter is going to accept that being the heart of the deal for him

Nor are the players. You've gotta sell this to the playing group first and foremost.

Some may not like Trac, but they know without him and some first rounders in this year's draft, next year we're nowhere near.

I never said he was no good he was excellent until we won the Premiership. He's been hit and miss since then. Langford is a hit, but it looks like Jefferson is a miss, Kolt could be a miss, too early to tell about Lindsay and Windsor didn't come on this year.

You're just making stuff up here lol

On Fox's sporting section they stated we will get SUNS pick 7 and 17 , Suns get Petracca and our pick 26. This a [censored] deal , bare minimum ( insane ) they should get our 5Th round pick.

Humphries probably a better option.

We don't know what we're going to get for Petracca yet

But one thing is for sure, we will need picks & players and that has to happen now

We can't rebuild unless we have the assets

The one thing up our sleeve is that we're prepared to burn $$$$'s in the cap.  So picks (or players) appear if we're happy to subsidise

Cash for picks

I’ll eat my membership scarf if we accept this type of deal.

I’ll also burn down Casey.

If your saying Goodwin is clueless I agree with you. The worst thing he done was stick by Clarry everybody knew he had issues that were culture killing but he stood by him and I think it cost him his job in the end. It would have been nice to see Tholstrup play more games.

The only absolute question mark is Jefferson and with almost all the other top 20 draftees, it's too early to have a definitive opinion

All this with a dysfunctional and obsolete game plan that wasn't working anyway

Let's see how all these youngsters go with.a different plan and a new coach

We won't get 12 for Clarry we might have last year but Goodwin stupidly kept him. 32 at best.

Saints gave offered 7 for Flanders.

Giants have 12.

We will pay some of Clarry’s salary.

We will absolutely get 12 for a player who is miles better than Flanders and will end up on a cheaper salary. 4 B & F, AA, Premiership player. What has Flanders done, nothing?

32 what an absolute joke.

I was never a Goodwin fan but he was never the only major issue. Back in April on the Goodwin thread I was calling for a cleanout in FD and an overhaul of the list

We are well on the way to doing so but I'd like to see Lamb & Richardson exited as well. Ironically, they are both contracted, so we're stuck with them (for now)

As for the MC, they lost their way which calls into question all of the assistants

Our teamwork within the midfield and the disposal and decision making from the midfielders was substandard ... albeit with some very talented players at our disposal

I'd hate to you this but the last 2 years he hasn't been and he has issues too. Remember how Fremantle got rid of Hogan? This will be similar. I'd be pleading for pick 32. I don't think we will get it. Pick 12 is a pipe dream. You're thinking of 2021 when we wouldn't give him away for anything now he's fractured with his issues due to Smith and if I ever run into Shaun again he's best friends with my uncle I will tear his son a new [censored].

I want to give Trac some credit.

Firstly, while his form this year was below his best it was still very good and as good as could be expected given the physical and psychological impact of his King's Birthday injury.

Secondly, after last year's failed departure, I expected Trac to seek a trade at the end of 2025. Despite everyone's hypervigilance for signs of discontent, the dominant narrative this year - at least externally - has been that he was committed to the club.

In these two regards, I think Trac has conducted himself professionally and somewhat re-stored a reputation that took some damage in 2024. It has also put us in a much better negotiating position than if he had a poor season or seemed desperate to leave for the whole year.

With that being said, it's in everyone's best interest that a fair deal is struck. King deserves to start his reign with committed and unified squad. The persisting presence of a want-away high-maintenance star is harmful. I'm all in on a straight swap for Humphrey (+/- change either side).

Most here would agree with the Humphrey +- swap.

But if it doesn't happen, what then? Seems to me Petracca went to the club saying he wanted to test the trade waters. Dees agreed but are not pushing him out the door like Oliver and May.

I'd hold him to his contractt.

Jake Rogers could be another one worth asking the Suns about, We’re desperate for another quality small forward with speed and looks like he’s going to get pushed down the pecking order further considering Leo Lombard barely played this season and Trac is likely to chew up some minutes as the Dusty hybrid mid/fwd role

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.
