I still think this is in play but GC being so adamant does nothing for them if they backflip. No one will ever believe them again.

Lucky for them they only have 27 members to answer to, and 25 of them are drunk on XXXX beer

She'll be right

Whether or not it’s the right move for the club, perhaps the Suns, as an interstate team, want to send a message to their own players that they won’t entertain mid-contract “homesickness” requests. It could just as easily be a warning to others on their list. That’s not to say they won’t eventually relent, but they likely don’t want to appear as pushovers to their own players or to rival clubs looking to lure young talent back home.

Imagine for a moment if the Suns refused to pony up Bailey Humphrey, and then the MFC walked Trac back in the doors. and then in 12 months time BH again wants to leave.

the Suns probably blow a premiership window

We'll have the same issue with Trac wanting to leave again, but his trade value will diminish.

So? we signed him to a long term deal anticipating that he'll be here for the duration.

We can again, just not trade him, that's what makes contracts great.

For those proposing that Trac's value is diminished, in the 2025 Browlow voting he polled 16 votes in a return year from a horrific injury. At a new club, with the added incentive to prove himself again, he will be in prime vintage form, and with his conscientious approach to his fitness likely to perform at peak for at least 5 years.
By contrast Humphrey polled 2 votes and while an emerging talent, is yet to hit the heights of Trac, if he ever will.

In addition, both Trac and Humphrey play mid/forward, so if Trac joins GC with Humphrey still there they will both be competing for the same midfield time, given Rowel and Anderson are locks.

A final point Cameron calling Hump an "impetuous" 21 year old is great, as anyone who's had 21 year old kids the last thing you want to do is tell them what to do, or not do, as it will automatically trigger their ODD (Opposition Defiance Disorder) and generate the opposite of your intented result.

Nobody knows the answer on this until it happens/ doesn’t happen but I would put my house on it GC is confident they could get a deal done for Trac with draft picks if this happens

They can be confident as they want, MFC is the body that needs to be appeased

This is clearly unlikely, but could the club go back to Brand Trac and say 'start reaching out to other clubs, and make it public'? It could spook GC a bit. I know he's nominated GC, but so what? This is our biggest asset we've had in years (maybe Dogga equal). We are trading away arguably our best player. We should not settle for less than what we ask for. I also don't think we're being unreasonable either.

My thoughts exactly. Ring up Trac and say GC are not coming to the party - we’d still love to have you Ttac. Maybe look for a 2nd or 3rd option.

The [censored] bag shouldn’t have nominated so quickly.

Do you have a sense on how hard ball Lamb is willing to play?

From the outside looking in I think we need to be genuine in our resolve that Trac will come back to the Dees unless we get a great deal

To me the only great deals are GC’s picks 7 and 8, or Humphrey

I feel like the Humphrey trade is in the palm of our hands but we need to be going all out to get him to request a trade, as well as be serious about Trac not being traded unless our demands are met

I can 100% guarantee you that if the Gold Coast Suns don't appease Melbourne, Trac will be playing at Melbourne in 2026. In fact, Steven King is only allowing this process to play out at all as a gesture of good faith to Trac, he would prefer to keep him.

He did so because he was confident GC can get a deal done

Which is precisely why they need to get this done

The pressure is on GC not on us

Is that intel or just reading the tea leaves?

FWIW I agree that’s been our public stance, but honestly Lamb’s record over the last few years has me worried

This myth again

Please tell me who is the last contracted big name star player that Lamb has traded away for less than he's worth?

A better tactic would be for Humphrey's manager to come out and say: "we understand that Bailey signed a contract, and when he signed it his family circumstances were different. We have told Gold Coast why Bailey needs to return home, and we hope they would do the right thing by the kid and let him get back home to family"

You have to flip the narrative, and make it seem like GC are stopping a kid from going home on compassionate grounds, DESPITE there being a good trade solution on the table that gets everyone what they want.

Lets see how this plays out

you need to be on the payroll this is exactly what they should do. Make GC out to the be bad guys which can hurt them as a destination club going forward is the right way to go about it. No more being Nice

Its truly genuine that Steven King would love to have Trac play for him next year. There is no bluffing here. The reason for the complete overhaul was on the back of the discussions trac had with MFC last year. Trac wanted change. MFC changed coach and senior managers. If a deal does not get done, he returns and trac knows this.

Dees DO NOT want the picks. Dees are going harder than you think on persuading Humphrey to choose us to get a deal done.

Still very confident.

I mean the club has been fairly transparent with this, Steven King pitched to Trac to try and convince him not to seek a move.

I think if this were 2024 and the Suns offered pick 6 and 7 we'd have taken it and run, we could have had a package of Langford, Lindsay, Tauru and Reid for example, but this year it's not the same draft so getting a deal done is going to be impossible without players of note.

D Day tomorrow apparently. Meeting scheduled.

No photos will be found on the web for this meeting. Dollars and terms to be discussed which says to me they have some sort of indication that Bailey has interest.

People might disagree with me here but honestly ANB

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for being compassionate when it comes to our players, but ANB left a massive playing and leadership void in our team, and we seemed more than happy to ship him off for a token second round pick

ANB walked straight into Adelaide’s best 23 and leadership group - he was clearly highly rated by them but we gave them an easy out

I don’t think we should be like Dodoro was for Essendon and be a nightmare club to deal, but I think we’ve been too willing to take unders or too happy to overpay just to get deals done under Lamb’s tenure

I think he needs to get this Trac deal exactly right or he should rightly be under the pump going into next year

And I can absolutely 100% see MFC being appeased (perhaps not some supporters though) come the end of the trade period with a package comprising of draft picks.

That doesn’t mean BH isn’t option A for us though.

If it plays out like this, dees will see trac at MFC training. Gold coast and promised him the world. Push comes to shove we will come out alright. Wont be picks though

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
