2025 Player Reviews: #7 Jack Viney

The Demon stalwart surpassed the number of his father's appearances for the club towards the end of the season. As he approaches his thirties, his pace is inevitably slowing, and he is likely to explore alternative opportunities beyond the team's midfield.

Would like to see him be moved into a pressure forward role, not sure he still has the ability to be a good midfielder

When he's 'on' he's still far and above one of the best bash and crash clearance midfielders in the competition.

Without any intel, it looked as though he was fighting a few niggles this season. Just didn't look quite right for most of the year.

Still an important player for us.

A Gen X player in a Gen Z world, love his fierceness, incredibly important player for us. Will remain a tackle machine, a human version of a big cat hunting on Animal Planet. Think back to that 1st tackle in the 21 GF. When we play finals next he will be leading the way in pressure acts. Between him and Kossie we go very well for pressure around the ball.

Goodwin listened to us and started him as a small forward in the second GC game. It lasted a quarter.

what year will we be playing finals?

His days as a starting midfielder are over. Needs to find a new role if he wants to remain relevant - hard tagger maybe.

Jack is a hard, tough tenacious player, a good coach will always have a role in mind for him. Looking forward to seeing JV having a big year in the new environment.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
