You've picked a good year to be os. I only know of AFL and sportal type services where they give details of what happens, but you're reading it and can't actually see anything.

Talk to "Before2long"... a member here at demonland...

He lived there through the ENTIRE 2006 season. If anyone would know how to get by, it'd be him.

As an overseas demon (have been for the last couple of years...) I would suggest:

afl.com.au go to gameday live and you can stream the radio for any of the games. You can't just go to MMM, for example, as they play other crud over the internet during the games that they are broadcasting in Melb (or wherever).

Eurosport2 (often available in hotels all over the world) has a weekly rap up show, that is played 4x per week normally. Typical AFL package of tripe, though.

You can register (at a fee) for video feeds after the matches on afl.com as well, but this year I haven't bothered...

Keep in touch with Demonland and demonology, often if you can't stream the game, the folks are kind enough to give you game updates (and their unbiased opinions!!) during the game. SImply logging on 1 hour after the match can tell you the result in about 5 second (look at the topics posted!)

Also, realfooty.com.au (the age) and www.heraldsun.news.com.au/footy are also good for the main footy articles coming through.

As a member, you should also get your weekly newsletter. I also still get the NSW demons weekly newsletter, which I always enjoy.

Enjoy yourself!

i was another one who picked a good year to be OS... i was in california from late september to late june...

my first game back in melbourne was last friday against Essendon...

these are your options:

Radio: www.afl.com.au will provide all available radio streams through it's gameday live feature... all online streaming from broadcasting radio stations will be blocked during the game, so afl.com.au is your only alternative there.

Video: there are a number of options.

the first is subscribing as an international subscriber to www.afl.com.au video streaming service. this will give you all games available to stream 12 hours after the bounce of the ball, along with all other video on the afl website. they charge $60 for a 12 month subscription. the problem i've read with this is that this service is primarily designed for bigpond customers in australia, who get this service for free. the international stream can be of quite a poor quality, which pauses alot. i never bought this as i didn't want to pay for a substandard service.

there are also some television networks which broadcast some afl games in north america. setanta sports is the main one which this season is broadcasting 3 games live a week. there are lots of details of north american afl coverage at www.afana.com

the other alternative is to download the games via torrent. sites like mininova.org or demonoid.com (if you can get an invite) usually have the games available to download 24-36 hours after the game has finished.

i couldn't really do any of these because i was living at a university, so i couldn't subscribe to the TV service, couldn't download torrents because they blocked them on the internet they provided, and i didn't want to pay for what i read was a crappy Telstra subscription service. i listened to the odd game, but that was about it... but i'm sure you'll find which option works best for you...

I just got back from Canada a few months ago and I was very deprived from sports over there.

I found the best thing to do was just go to the afl website and listen to it live.

They didnt show anything on tv however there was a bar that played an afl game on monday nights but clearly that is not live but it managed to give me my fix for the week haha.

So good luck in Canada you will have a ball.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
