2025 Smithy’s VFL Team of the Year squad

The 2025 Smithy's VFL Team of the Year squad has been announced

A squad of 40 players in contention for selection for the 2025 Smithy’s VFL Team of the Year has been selected.

The final team of 24 players will be named on Monday, September 15 at the 2025 VFL and VFLW Awards. A captain and coach will also be selected.

Coburg and Frankston have the equal most representatives in the 2025 Smithy’s VFL Team of the Year squad, with five players each.

The full list of club representation was: Box Hill Hawks (four), Brisbane Lions (two), Carlton (two, including Liam McMahon), Casey Demons (three), Coburg (five), Collingwood (two), Essendon (two, including Liam McMahon), Footscray Bulldogs (three), Frankston (five), Geelong Cats (one), GWS GIANTS (one), North Melbourne (one), Port Melbourne (one), Richmond (one), Southport Sharks (three), Werribee (three) and Williamstown (two). Gold Coast Suns, Northern Bullants, Sandringham and Sydney Swans did not have a representative selected.

The Three Casey players;

Riley Bonner, Casey Demons
18 matches this season, 3 goals
Averages 31.6 disposals, 6.4 rebound 50s, 4.4 inside 50s

Tom Campbell, Casey Demons
15 matches this season, 7 goals
Averages 17.5 disposals, 26.5 hitouts, 7.9 hitouts to advantage

Mitch Hardie, Casey Demons
16 matches this season, 26 goals
Averages 25.8 disposals, 8.7 score involvements, 4.2 inside 50s

Former Dees: Declase/Tomlinson

Is it worth sniffing around any of the names on this list?

given how much vfl they played in a finals side - and how often they were listed in the best players - i think it says volumes that neither of laurie or billings were in the squad of 40

There were 3 of 4 Frankston players from last week that ran rings around some of Casey's AFL listed players.

If Max Gruzewski can be somehow prised off the GWS list that would be a mini recruiting coup d’ etat.

Congratulations to Riley Bonner and Mitch Hardie who have been selected in the final VFL Team of the Year for 2025.

Also to the Casey Demons’ recruiting program for contracting these guys in the first place. Two good recruits in one season plus the return of Baldi and they originally recruited Jai Culley here to play for Casey.

who got ruck over tc? must've had a helluva season

Bonner is currently 3rd in the B&F. Sounds like Hardie won't be with us next year which is a shame.
