Soccer game is afoot.

Selwyn said that some of the boys when they saw it was raining said theyโ€™re a little โ€˜soreโ€™ but when they heard the soccer ball was coming out all of the sudden they were no longer sore ๐Ÿคฃ

Proof positive some are definitely wary of leather poisoning.

Tracc a no-show. He has the flu.

Clarrieโ€™s birthday today so I gave him a card and gift from the DA and an additional hug. He said heโ€™s having a great day already, but that was before he had to take off the tracky and get out into the rain. ๐Ÿ˜

Someone needs to tell Max that soccer isnโ€™t a contact sport. He just tackled Chin so hard. To his credit, Chin managed to slide out from under Max who was left lying flat, face down and getting laughed at. ๐Ÿ˜…

Good to see whoโ€™s in charge

Itโ€™s a wrap. The boys are heading back to AAMI for a team meeting.

Lots not present today - See Ghosty's post above:

Absentees:

May, Petracca, Viney, Spargo, Turner, TMac, Adams, Campbell, Sparrow, Fullarton, Petty, Pickett, Sestan, Woewodin, AJ.

Also no Hore, McAdam or AMW from the LTI (done for the season list).

Billings, Bowey, Howes and Henderson all just ran laps rather than joining the soccer, and departed early.

Woewodin took a heavy knock during the Casey game on Sunday - looked like ribs/concussion, or both.

Max was comfortably nailing his "round the corner" shots. Look for them in a game if he marks close to goal.

Injury update tonight.

Hope the press ghouls were not there. Prepare for headlines about deep divisions and disrespect for the captain ๐Ÿ™„

It was clearly a joke. Do you think for even a second that Selwyn wouldโ€™ve said it to track-watchers had it been true?

Sombre and sullen lot, plenty with puffer jackets and arms folded, as they gather and wait for stragglers. The rain had stopped, and the sun was 30 minutes from breaking. Goody appeared focused and stern. Not much joviality except for Gawn. I think they may have had some home truths at the post match meeting.

A few run throughs, maybe 21 out there in full training with another 4 running slow laps.

With so few on the pitch, the soccer looked more competitive. Some are still struggling to have any skill at it.

Whistle went, and half of them left the field. Two did some low ball gets with a trainer. The other 10 kicking goals, most with two or three shots. JVR under the tutelage of Williams. Clarry had a shot, and it went sideways, Fritta offered him the ball he was carrying, and he glanced and walked away. I was quite amazed that he didn't try again. It was a wet surface.

Last out there was Verral and Gawn.

Ok, would not surprise me at all. Anyway who has AFL players doing two on ground warm ups before a game would never surprise me.

Big thanks to Ghostwriter, Harvey Wallbanger and Kev Martin plus posters. Really appreciate your efforts in such terrible conditions, that is a lot of players missing hope they arenโ€™t all ill. Flu explains why Tracc was so down on his usual standards. May, Sparrow and Woey all injured?

This morning the players had an indoor training session which was all about tackling. They were told to lay hard tackles and make them stick, also how to โ€˜shrug offโ€™ tackles. It was long and intense and at the end they were told to now go about doing the exact same thing during play.

Tomorrow, the indoor session will be all about handballing.

How could they be sore, tripped over a grape or something similar.

Please take this as genuine curiosity.... i wonder if these are repeat sessions from earlier this year ?? Perhaps.... wonder ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

And donโ€™t forget Kicking in front of a leading player, though I guess that would have to come after the make a lead session. Seriously why should professional players need to be taught this?

I remember having a kick with my then 8yo son making him lead before I would kick it in front of him. And I was not a high achiever having just reached VAFA U19 at my peak.

Nobody was sore. Selwyn was making a joke. Besides, no one trips over a grape, how it that even possible? Slip on a grape? Maybe. But not trip on a grape.

Itโ€™s about 18 weeks overdue. I expect next preseason to focus heavily on defence again. Whilst a lot is made on our ball movement, we have regressed monumentally defence wise. Especially in transition and against turnovers. I get that we are probably not used to defending this way given the focus on offence, but we have given up way too much for little gain offensively.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.
