A terrible first 5 minutes, and then it was Travaglia and Dow against the Demons. Kolt with 4 clearances, 9 touches and a goal the standout. Hardie making VFL look too easy - he gets into so much space. Campbell dominating in the ruck, and El Jeffe coming alive. They keep saying he dropped 2 chest marks - he was lucky to make it to the first (it was a terrible kick), the second he should have taken. Billings and Bonner also good. Kentfield's contested mark was probably the best piece of play all day.

Tholstrup, Billings, Jeffo, Laurie, Sharp playing well so far. Kentfield had a nice contested grab early, think we've found one there. Needs a pre-season. Johnson limited touches but looking like a strong presence and attracts the long ball to his direction. Campbell solid as always in the ruck.

Hardie a fantastic player from the Casey boys.

Haven't seen Kalani yet.

Good response from Kolt. Would have 7 or 8 touches, two big game changing tackles and a goal.

Interesting though watching him at CBs - he clearly needs coaching about how to get on the move and when. Can ball watch a little. To be fair, I don't think he was ever a permanent midfielder as a junior. I think the club know he's coming from a way back and have taken a very long term punt on what he could be with proper coaching and fitness paired with his power, frame and character.

Jeffo dropped a couple of uncontested ones (again!) but he is showing good defensive intent and covering the ground well. He and Kentfield look good together...honestly it's probably better than the AFL forward line. Hardie is a weapon

Good take on Tholstrup.

Paddy Dow was able to get away fairly easily from him purely because he was stagnant and flat footed.

As you say, needs to keep on the move around stoppages.

Other then that he had a solid quarter.

Jeffo great contested mark against cordy, lucky to get the 50 after his handball was smothered. Misses the set shot.

Great start for the Demons.

Does anyone know if Jack Behnk from St Bedes in the Ammos who had a game or two last year is still on Casey’s list? I saw him kick 11 goals yesterday in a high standard game against AJAX. Both teams in the top four in C Section. The kid looks a real prospect.

Listed on the VFL app as #77

Pretty sure that he’s on the list. Will do a quick check.

Jeffo's leading has been fantastic so far. Notice how the Casey side are lowering their eyes?!

Laurie finds top 5 draft hopeful duursma on the angle kick who lasers a kick to Jeffo who takes another strong mark, misses his 2nd this quarter.

Yes, he’s on the list and I hope the club’s onto it.

Kalani with his first touch of the day, marking it on the wing. Billings bursts through the 50 evading a couple opponents and converts the goal. Billings looking sharp in front of goal recently

Billings kicks another and Casey have now kicked 10.3.

Billings boots his second - this has all the hallmarks of last week. Just waiting for AJ and Luker to get among the goals.

Is the Rigoni getting the ball in Sandy's backline related to our Guy?

He better not be, otherwise I'd be angry he isnt playing for us. I love hearing him get the ball!

Kentfield looks awesome in the air, floats across the front of the pack to take a solid grab 10 metres out directly in front, converts the set shot.

Kentfield takes a commanding mark over the pack and slots his first.

The procession continues

Jed Adams had some nice moments in Q2, still needs to bulk up but he has a nice leap and is quite fast for his size

Tholstrup, Laurie and Sharp less prominent in that quarter.

Billings continuing his white hot form and is everywhere.

Adams looking solid in defence, mentha a few touches and looks a smooth mover but some targets missed.

Jefferson presenting strongly and defending the ground ball with intent. Missed a couple of opportunities which could have seen him with 5 goals to half time. Goes in with 2.3

Kalani a few nice touches but otherwise not overly involved, probably on limited minutes compared to most and is in a stacked forward line of Johnson, Jefferson, kentfield

Duursma kid can kick

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

It seems like only yesterday that these two sides faced off against each other in the centre of the continent. It was when Melbourne was experiencing a rare period of success with five wins from its previous six matches including victories over both of last year’s grand finalists.  Well, it wasn’t yesterday but it was early last month and it remains etched clearly in the memory. The Saints were going through a slump and the predicted outcome of their encounter at TIO Traeger Park was a virtual no-brainer. A Melbourne victory and another step closer to a possible rise into finals contention. Something that was unthinkable after opening the season with five straight defeats.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
