Carlton miss a point. Lons straight down and goal. That says it all. Cripps must be one of the most over rated players out there tonight.

If they gave a point for every throw he's the man

Anyone dreading next week when Carlton break their losing run?

Yeah probably

Two Main Teams the maggots idolise but have given up on favouring. They have now put away the whistle officially on Carlton and Essendon unless we are playing them.

Doubt it. He’s been a bit better over the last year – since they played him back for a few games last year.

Thought I heard a dodgy comment last night about him having an Eric–tion during a purple patch in the second quarter. Not sure how that went to air, if in fact I heard it correctly.

The Age has just published an article about the reported death threat on Michael Voss that got the Collingwood supporter a five year ban.

The text was:

“I’d like to report 23 missing persons and pre-emptively report the murder of Michael Voss.”

The article goes on to suggest that perhaps the AFL have over reacted.

Sending a "bogus" message to a "report abuse" line is perhaps worthy of censure but a five year ban?

Now it made sense. The Collingwood supporter was not a would-be criminal but a would-be comedian. It was not a death threat, but a nasty little attempted gag about Carlton’s 23 “missing” players and Voss’s presumably imminent sacking. So the question has to be asked: is a failed joke a reason to ban someone from attending a venue for five years?

The AFL’s statement said that abuse is abuse “regardless of the intent”. The same applies to the message against abuse. Good intent is not sufficient. Spray it around too loosely or patronise the public with “learning moments”, and the message is wasted. There’s only one [censored] who benefits from that

Old Dee, I've thought for quite a while, he's overrated full stop. Gets a fair bit of the ball but there's a lot of nothing disposals. Then we're told he's playing a sensational game.

Do we really think gold coast will get close to Collingwood tonight?

I tipped them trying to make up some ground and bloody hell everyone above me did to. Should be a cracking game, GC have a crazy amount of talent on their list.

Hardwick has the GC boys seriously wound up. Let’s see if they can keep the pies scoreless until half time.

suns applying serious heat. pies can't handle it

Well played by McCrae for using his annual ‘sickness through the club’ card for this game.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
