We went wrong when Yze was selected over Newton...

Obviously it doesn't make a 50 point difference, but Yze was obviously underdone, probably shouldn't of even played in VFL this week. Michael Newton, in good form, some height as David Neitz, fully fit and ready to go... Why wasn't he played? It was quite obvious in that first half that we lacked height up forward....

Is it just me or does it sound completely stupid to play an injured, shorter Adem Yze over a fully fit and ready to go Michael Newton!?

That question makes my head hurt  .......

But I don't think the inclusion of Newton would have automatically won us this game.

There seem to be other, possibly greater, problems than his total lack of inclusion tonight.

As I said, he wouldn't of made the 50 point difference but it would of helped imo...

At the risk of being abuse, I don't think that was the problem.

Yze obviously passed a fitness test and he was the right call in a friday night game. I want Newton to get a game but Newton/Yze is not a like for like call FCS.

No Miller to blame so now its Yze fault. Give me a break, the whole team realy struggled tonight, including the coaching staff

This was not the game to bring Newton in, he needs to come in when Neitz is in the side

But shouldn't it have been?

I mean Yze was brought in for Neitz, while Newton, at least in size, is a hell of a lot more comparable.

Yze replaced Neitz in the final side so those supporting Newton have a case.

Yze just served up one of his typical spineless front running performances. When the pressures hot, Yze is not.

He should not have been selected period.

No Yze was a wrong selection period. The guy is a borderline footballer at best these days. How he could replace Neitz with the Yze he soft shoes a contest is beyond me.

IMO Newton should come in when he shows he can consistently apply his talent at Sandy.

I actually thought about that, without Miller who were we going to hold responsible to the loss.....

Unfortunately there were way to many people putting their hands up for that particular position.

I'll accept that KW to a point. Perhaps it is the predictability of the Neitz/Yze swap that has us cursing now, however as the game unfolded it was evident we had no viable tall target up forward. Having said that if Newton had kicked as many goals as Dutchy in that score we all would have thought he was the Mesiah.

Newton would have caught a cold out there tonight, the ball never went forward in the first half. We got smashed in the middle and down back.

Correct. With all our best mids except TJ & Moloney playing getting smashed in the clearances was the worst aspect of the first half.

I thought that maybe we had gotten over that in recent times, but we were appalling in the middle tonight.

the real essence of the selction problem for me , whilst acknowledging I'm a pro Newtonian, is that Danners picked some one who was obviously nowhere near 100% when he could have had an at least useful player ( whom doesnt even matter ) for most of the game as well as bench implications.

What the... was any of the selction panel thinking ?

That and Ooze obviously works to a different meaning of...ARE YOU FIT , RIGHT TO GO ?

We were never going to win with that forward line...

Juice should have been brought in to give us some size up forward...

PJ is good but cant kick 5 goals in a game... Daniher refuses to play White forward and Robbo is a gun but not when he is getting sought out ecvery thrust forward.....

Daniher is a joke and his selction commitee should have a big look at themselves after tnights selections...

Pickett - crap

Yze - Joke

Alternatively

juice could have been bloodied and at worse we would off known he wasnt ready and Whelan could have came back to play on Brown and psychologicaaly smash him from wanting to go near the ball...

Playing miller would have been better than Yze forward. At least he has some size......

And again when Melbourne are getting beaten and the cameras pan up to th coaches box, how much faith do we recieve looking at Danihers face...

He simply has no idea and needs to move along with some of his friends...

We have spme young tough exciting players in the team in Chook, Bater, Slylvia, Belly, Rivers, Moloney, Flash, Ricky Bobby, Jonesey and Juice and co put someone compatent in the drivers seat of the school bus to direct us to a p-ship contender whilst we still have the champion Neitz to kick our goals...

Nathan Brown killed us tonight. Now imagine the pschological benefit had wrecker fronted him !! All thosee nighmare images and recalls of pain would have been right in his face. Brown was left to play.. totally incomprehensible

this is just the point...Danners doesnt think outside the box !! 99% of footy is above the shoulders.. that was what we needed to address with Brown.. The Tiges were pumped for him .. we neeed to deflate that.. box clever !!

Phsycologically? I doubt it, pretty evident IMO that we were the ones collectively shot between the eyes. I don't think Wheels would have made much difference given the ball was coming down with zero pressure.

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
