Not going to give you time and date mate.

I've recalled both Coaches mentioning the umpiring in less than cryptic terms.

Maybe you can pay more attention 🤔🤷‍♂️

Seriously?

I should pay more attention?

You claim Collingwood and Geelong club have called the AFL out and/or even publicly criticising the umpiring?

But the best you’ve got is you recall 'both Coaches mentioning the umpiring in less than cryptic terms'?

So, in other words you can't give an example of club calling the AFL out and/or even publicly criticised the umpiring?

Just some hazy vibes and recollections of less than cryptic comments (whatever that means) from two coaches.

No recollection of what they were actually criticising? Or even when it was? Must have been super compelling press conferences.

By your definition goody practically went nuclear on the umpires in discussing daicos suddenly getting a spike in frees after half time and saying he hopes all players get that treatment.

In any case I wasn't spoiling for a fight, I was simply trying to highlight that knocking the dees for not unloading on umpires Is unfair as no clubs do so.

And when that was challenged genuinely asking for an example.

i didn't even ask you for an example - I was responding to another poster

iin any case, thanks for going to the effort of replying - your post has proved my point not rebutted it.

It's just another false narrative, like how bad our our culture supposedly is, that some dees fans love to amplify.

[censored] mate... ever heard of Google!!! Not hard. Probably even you could manage.

Why would I bother googling?

I wasn't the one making an argument other clubs call out the AFL or umpires.

If you want to make that case, all power to you, i await your non vibe based recollections of comments from clubs a bit stronger than 'less than cryptic'.

I was arguing the opposite.

So I just googled.

And gee wiz do you know what I found?

Zip, Nada, zero.nothing.

Not one example of other clubs calling out the AFL or umpires.

Jesus's wept.

Better than googling I asked my friend at Perplexity.ai.

I've no idea how significant or rare these instances are. Interesting that C'Wood and Geelong get slaps over the wrist and North gets whacked to a total of $80K

Perplexity: Several AFL coaches have publicly criticised umpiring decisions, often leading to official warnings or meetings with the league. Here are notable recent and past examples:

  • Craig McRae (Collingwood): Criticised umpiring after a close loss to Sydney, specifically referencing non-calls on a 50m penalty and insufficient intent rulings. The AFL issued him an official warning for his comments, but took no further action after McRae acknowledged he had "stepped over the mark"

  1. .

  2. Chris Scott (Geelong): Delivered a lengthy critique of umpiring and rule interpretations after a shock loss to Port Adelaide, focusing on holding the ball decisions and the advantage rule. The AFL’s umpire bosses met with Scott to discuss his concerns, but no formal sanctions were reported

  3. .

  4. Brad Scott (North Melbourne): Made false claims that umpires refused to pay free kicks to Lindsay Thomas, which the AFL deemed as impugning the integrity of umpires. This resulted in a $30,000 fine for Brad Scott and a $50,000 fine for North Melbourne. The swift apology from both Scott and the club helped mitigate further penalties

  • .

These cases illustrate that while coaches sometimes voice frustrations about umpiring, the AFL closely monitors such comments and may impose sanctions if the criticism is deemed excessive or unfounded. The league often encourages coaches to address concerns privately rather than publicly.

Not without going through every single media release from every single club, no. Throughout the annals of time, though, I seem to recall certain coaches sometimes calling it out in media conferences post game.

Agree with Binman that it is rare coaches and afl teams call out the umpires through the media.

That said, I do recall Chris Scott mentioning that the 4 umpires doesn’t work. So some do make mention, but they definitely don’t speak their mind!!

Rid the confusion: The rule Blight wants changed

“Just get rid of the confusion.”

Why? The repercussions are too harsh when only asking for an explanation or the truth. The North fine above of $80k for suggesting Thomas didn’t receive frees in my opinion was unjustified. Like the kozzie vs hill trips there was an inconsistency in the rule being applied and then the sanction is flabbergasting that they aren’t the same outcome when the vision is there for MRO.

I’m sure you could easily find a Ginnivan or Daicos high [censored] and compare that next to the Thomas non calls and be confused with the rules.

Reminds me of the time yonks ago when John Kennedy was asked about umpiring after his team got the rough end of the pineapple one day. He said "Normally I say 'No comment'. Today I say 'Absolutely no comment whatsoever!'".

Clubs should not call out about the umpiring standard.

That said this was such a a disgraceful effort by the maggots...Im sorry...professional umpires.... in the pies game, that an exception needed to be made.

It clearly cost us four points and our finals hopes. If it's not the pies taking out one of our players, it's now the umpires seemingly chipping in, to help out.

I used to think the crowd noise was often a factor in swaying decisions. Against the pies there were so many dodgy calls when this wasn't a factor. So, I cannot find any legitimate reason why the standard was so poor.

It ruined a great day of footy on such a special occasion. Great work you maggots.

Actually insane. I don't think I've ever seen slipped tackles sanctioned before.

Yet Hardwicks deliberate grab of Kozzies ankle as he was running into a certain goal didn't get cited.

As pointless as it is I kinda hope we appeal and highlight the ridiculous nature of the charge.

No fine for Bobby Hill for exactly the same as XL in the Cats game. Cats and Pies very rarely sanctioned these days.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
