Looks like a far more equitable draw than last year from a playing perspective. 3 interstate teams out at Casey Fields is probably not ideal from a $ perspective, but the early afternoon time slot is preferable to later slots. I don't think the club could have too many complaints.

thats a great draw. no north or crows. we should absolutely be making a prelim

last 2 rounds probably our toughest games v Lions and Cats. those games will be a big factor in where we finish on the ladder

6 wins minimum. Should make the finals in November

Finally 12 games in the season!

Something approaching a professional league

Looking forward to it!

Soft draw. Only disappointment is the girls won’t have a chance to get at Libby Birch again in the H&A season. I guess we will have to wait for finals!

Great draw! We miss North, Adelaide and Hawthorn. Only 3 interstate - Freo, Port and Brisbane. 5 home games at Casey, 1 at Ikon against Essendon. Whitten Oval, Vic Park and GMHBA the local away games....

Bring it on!

Good draw, appropriate for our ladder position for last season. Gets tougher at the end but if we're there abouts we'll hopefully have built by then.

I just wish they could announce the fixture a little earlier, or failing that, at least give notice of when it will be announced. It's always a guessing game, and as a result, there's games I could have planned around but too late now. Somehow it was announced a week later than last year despite the season starting two weeks earlier.

I will say, I like how away games in Vic are included in a standard W membership, it's good value especially considering the hike to Casey is often further than the home grounds of other teams.

Anyone going to attempt the double on the 16th of August? Men's Round 23 v Hawthorn MCG at 4.15pm and women's Round 1 v Western Bulldogs at Whitten Oval at 7.35pm.

@Ghostwriter I know its different people for M and W, but does the cheersquad have enough floggers etc. to split between two games? For some reason I'm picturing a single sad person as our cheersquad at Whitten. I'm sure that won't be the case. Hopefully the right big heads end up at the right games haha.

Yep, we were talking about that today. It will be tight but we’ll do it. Some will leave the M match early because we need a banner crew and guard of honour at Whitten Oval. Thank goodness it’s at Whitten Oval and not Casey.

Even when we have to split in two we always have enough people and props for both. When Casey won the premiership in 2022 half of us were at Ikon and half were at Casey for the W match on that same day.

From a broader perspective, the analysis shows the greater degree of variation in AFLW fixture strength compared with the men's and the best measure to remedy that (more games).

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • PREGAME: Port Adelaide

The Demons are set to embark on a four-week road trip that takes them across the country, with two games in Adelaide and a clash on the Gold Coast, broken up by a mid-season bye. Next up is a meeting with the inconsistent Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval. Who comes in and who goes out?

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
