Not sure how long these 2 will have signed on for.

7. Gold Coast - Oscar Adams

198cm, 23/7/03, Glenelg

14. Gold Coast - Caleb Lewis

198cm, 29/9/03, Casey

BUT Thats 9 players at GC above 198cms on their list this year, we currently have 4- Max, TC, Fullarton and Verral.

CC: Kalani White.

I remember seeing Caleb Lewis play at St Bedes Mentone a few years ago and, even at a relatively low level, he just looked like a serious player.

I was excited to see him link up with Casey, but I don't think he ever played more than a couple of games for the club.

He is certainly one I will be watching with interest.

Is anyone across the father/son rules that knows if he’s still eligible for drafting as a f/s selection at the end of the year?

i think he can be selected by anyone as a cat b rookie maybe, not 100% sure tho

So a 196cm key position forward who has “every tool in the box you’d want in a modern-day key forward” and was there right under our noses got drafted to the Gold Coast Suns yesterday. He couldn’t get a game at Casey?

Something here doesn’t add up.

he's been eligible since 2021 and skipped over in multiple drafts

sometimes kids take time to come on

Yes he had the tools. But Casey had had too many key talls in Fullarton, JVR, AJ, Kentfield and Jeffo all at various times, so no space or time in the Casey team.

Note that Kentfield is now being trialed in defence given our number of talks but again I think he’s a key forward and perhaps not given the opportunity to develop there.

My review of the MSD 2025

I have to say (and not just because Melbourne wasn't involved), the midseason draft was more than somewhat over hyped. Yes, I have no doubt that one or two stars of the future might emerge like Marlion Pickett, Jai Newcombe, Massimo D'Ambrosio, Ned Long and our very own Daniel Turner but the odds are against many of them making it. Most have been overlooked at least once in the past and while some of the younger ones might have the capacity to develop further, the majority will spend their time in the second tier competitions where they came from. The two players associated with Casey are good examples. Roan Steele was a good VFL footballer who wasn't picked up even after kicking five goals in a final for Casey a couple of years ago and Lewis has played only four games since crossing to Casey from the Western Bulldogs. This year, Casey has picked up some excellent VFL talent in Bonner, Hardie and Baldi but, while they nominated for the draft, they couldn't get a look in.

Thankfully, I haven't seen anyone rate the mid-season draft on a club by club basis which would be a farce since half of the clubs played no part in the draft. It might be different if there's a trade period involved at this stage of the year as some have suggested.

The AFL site broadcast the draft and its panel was fairly good but for one embarrassing slip up when the female presenter kept on calling Archer May, Essendon's pick number eight, "Archie" and the other panellists followed suit. The player concerned played in WA this year but was a product of the Sandringham Dragons and there's a connection to Dermot Brereton who is his mother’s partner. I'm sure young "Archie" is still copping flak over his new name.

Pick 1

Tom McCarthy (West Coast)

McCarthy grew up adoring Melbourne, listing the likes of David Neitz, Brad Green and Russell Robertson as some of his idols, as well as current superstar Christian Petracca.

Scott Pendlebury also grew up a Demon fan. Where did it get us?

@Whispering_Jack different point. Pendles was a star and Pies grabbed him at pick 5 in the draft, Pies knew he was special and he’s stayed at home. Whereas McCarthy has gone to WA, left his family. The bloke has real talent. Dees should monitor with his manager and keep an eye out. Lure of playing on the MCG with the Dees would likely still be there.
