This is a team notorious for inaccuracy. Over the long term Fritter is the most accurate forward at the club. No-one can stay at 100pc all the time. Ad long as he comes good in the Prelim, that's all I care about.

We don't get to a prelim if we have players that don't put in effort. Not hard to understand.

    Dearly needs to work on his set shots.

    I don’t think he’s nailed one set shot goal from the 35-40+ metre range this year which is a major function of being a permanent forward (maybe his set shot in round 2 V North was from 40??)

    He pleasingly can still instinctively snap those wonderful goals like the one in the third quarter on the weekend, and that reason alone makes it hard to drop him.

    I really like the player ratings as it shows the contribution to the net expected score (ie actions likely to improve the teams chance of scoring). It rewards direct actions as well as pressure acts that result in turnovers etc and penalises poor kicks etc. Frittas 2018 player rating was 10.23. He has only exceeded 10 in one other year (2022 it was 10.24). It’s a shame that despite only kicking 17 goals in 2018 he had as much or more scoreboard impact than every other year.

    iirc in 2018 he spent some time in defence to help develop his defensive skills. Not sure that went so well as he was dropped for the Prelim.

    Being in defence for some games helps explain just 17 goals.

    Not sure about 2019 as I have wiped it from the memory !

    imv in recent years we could carry he not having a defensive impact but not now that we have no ANB and the transition game (even if he plays deep fwd) requires every player to attack the ball/the opp when we don't have the ball. These 'are non-negotiables' for any player in any team.

    Hopefully, he is reading the room.

    A handy guide imv for his improvement is the impact of his defensive work eg how many turnovers he creates and how many goal/score assists he has.

    Your comments mirror a point i've made a few times about Fritter, namely everyone talks about his importance in 2021 and the fact he has been leading our leading goal scorer for 5 seasons - which are valid points. But it not as if he's never applied pressure and just swanned about the forward line just being the finisher.

    Far from it - leaving aside his first season (2018 - career high 57 tackles but only 17 goals) and 2019 (he played a big chunk of the year at HBF that season) there is a correlation between his tackle numbers and goals scored:

    • The most goals he has scored in a season is 59 in 2021 - he laid 47 tackles

    • The second most goals he has scored in a season is 55 in 2021 - he laid 37 tackles

    • Leaving aside 2018 (his debut year) and 2019 (played in defence for multiple games) the least goals he has scored in season is 22 in 2020 when e also laid the least tackles of his career (17)

    • The second least number of tackles is 27 in 2023 and 2024 when he kicked 39 and 41 goals respectively

    Short version - the more tackles Fritter lays the more goals he scores.

    Just adding to that. He had 11.2 pressure acts per game in 2021, which was his best season as far as pressure goes. He is 8 or 9 a game since. There is no reason he should not be at the level of say Jack Gunston who consistently averaged 11-14 pressure acts a game when kicking 50 goals a season. Gunston’s player rating (ie score impact), even when averaging the same goals per game as Fritta, is significantly higher (12-14 v Fritta at 8-10). It’s all due to creating pressure and turnover. Even if Fritta gets back to 2-3 goals a game, he shouldn’t get a free pass re pressure.

    One might go as far as to say he's really only cheating himself. Put the extra effort in.... extra results. Win win... means more wins.

    This game is really about small percentage..

    I.e the difference between trying....and really trying.

Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

      I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

      The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
