Why the hell are we giving them 23? A pick upgrade and Flanders doesn't cut it.

I think the proposed deal is very good on the condition Tracs full contract is taken on and we aren't paying anything. the unseen benefit we get of clearing that much cap space would allow us to be really aggressive in free agency next year.

If Zak Butters is looking to come back to Vic next year for example we could theoretically offer a really good deal with this space open.

Pick 23 isn't going to make them foot a million + deal. We keep 23 and pay some of the Brand's deal.

Some of the comments on Trac are poor coming from Demon supporters

He has always, imo given 100%. Over more than 10 years. Joined a unsuccessful team and never looked to leave early days.

Norm Smith and one of the best finals series you could ever see.

He is gutted when we lose, you can see that. And he shows leadership during big games and lifts those around him.

He went back on the field with broken ribs and lacerated spleen (must have been agony) and has literally bleed for this club.

So the comments regarding him not trying, not showing any leadership, being selfish etc, are poor

I think it would be an outrageous situation if we traded Trac AND paid some of his salary, i don't think any supporters thinking that's going to happen are valuing him correctly. we're more likely to accept slight unders from a trade perspective than we are to accept a deal where we're paying him to not play here.

I think it's a false reading of the motivations to move him on, we don't need to trade Petracca, but he significantly elevates the premiership hopes of the Crows or Suns

It wouldn't be outrageous at all.. The value of his contract is outrageous - we're simply buying a good pick. Look at it that way.

The way I it if we expect the next club to pay his whole contract we'll get FA back. We put ourself into this position now his trade becomes part salary dump.

I agree here. Flanders and 6 (which will likely slide to 9) is fair trade. Has Flanders reached the heights of Petracca or will he, no. But he will play A grade football for 6-8 years with attributes we need and give opportunity for JT to jag another elite youth. Then don't discount the value of cap $$$ saved in future years and moving on a player who appears to not be fully invested in a group Kings needs to galvanise for the road ahead. Will Trac play topline footy there for 2-3 years sure but this could be a win win.

I find the ability for Adelaide to craft a trade of similar value in player and picks much more difficult. As mentioned maybe there 2025 or 2026 F1 unlocks Flanders? It will be interesting to hear rumours of what is proposed either way if interest progresses.

What people need to understand is when it was nuclear last year we held our ground. If we deal this year WE (not he) have decided that what we receive nets the value we require to be better off moving forward.

Problem is crows first this year and next probably only unlocks Flanders, no way would the Dee’s be doing a deal that ends up as basically a swamp of trac for Flanders. So question is how do crows get more capital I just don’t see how

They also won't want to give up players and weaken their team. they'll want to do this exclusively from the draft pool but the picks just aren't good enough,

Only way i can see it happening is with a third team becoming involved.

I also don't know if there is much incentive for the Suns to trade Flanders outside a deal for Petracca or Curnow given i believe he's also contracted. if i was them i'd be holding him if they don't get someone who makes their team better, they don't need draft picks

And why do we need to salary dump we aren’t in a situation where we need to move players on or be in breach of the cap like pies a few years back. If we have managed our payments well and can afford to keep him then it shouldn’t matter what he is paid.

Because Trac is 30 and on the decline. If GCS was to give us 6 and Flanders I’d take it and run.

Agree.

Unless the relationship between tracc and the club has irretrievably broken down and we simply want him gone then paying any part of his salary shouldn't even be part of the conversation.

It's win win for us.

We trade Tracc, get an ok return (no need to gild the lily on that front - it doesn't' need to a crazy good return, ok is fine) and get his salary of our books, helping us negotiate, say, the Bisons and XL's next contract).

Or we keep Tracc, and he continues performing at high level for us, and in an ideal world fully gets back to his rampaging best (which by the by will be the expectation of any club keen on trading him in).

An idea which in reality is about where it sits.

Lets assume he can get close to his peak performance. We seem to gloss over the fact that his disposal is terrible. So if we have commited to the transition game, what role does superTrac play in this?

I look at Trac and would put him both in the same class of midfielder along with Danger, Newcombe, Cripps, Rowell and Dusty - beast / brute force midfielders who are attacking in nature. Measured in clearances, score involvements and goals. Trac probably ranks reasonably high on the offensive side, but rock bottom in kicking and defensive acts. His offensive attributes were so high, that you'd overlook the other elements, but with the modern game now moving away from stoppages and played in transition, can we really expect him to suddenly improve his kicking and become more balanced? Im not so sure. Id rather we trade him now and get something back that will help us in the long run, than persist and hope for things that are just unlikely to happen.

To me Oliver was always better at stoppage craft and defensive acts so id rather prioritise him rediscovering form over Trac.

Would be a strange move for Trac to move to GC or Crows not his profile type, loves Melb City plus Family,

King would want to keep him as he’s upside is great , so what he’s 30 , Dangerfield is 35 and looking at another flag with his first @ 32!

King himself has publicly declared finals is the aim for 2026, the fastest path to get back to finals is to get Petracca and Oliver playing their best footy next year so i have no doubt he'd be really keen for both to stay.

Every coach in the league has finals in 2026 as the aim.

Doesn't mean it's going to happen.

You cannot equate Danger to Trac I’m afraid. He doesn’t quite have the same brutality or athleticism as Danger IMO.

What's Dangerfield got to do with it, not only is he twice the player Tracc is he is also surrounded by a lot more quality.

If we could package both Adelaide picks into a top 5 pick , it maybe worth it - just get the circus over and done with.

You could get GCS involved too.

Adelaide get Trac for 14 and F1

GCS get 14, F1, 23 for Flanders and 6

MFC get 6, Flanders for Trac and 23.

We could do the exact same trade with GCS where instead of picks GCS get Trac. Just depends on what they prioritise.

I think that's a very good deal all around if Trac nominates Adelaide. With the new points scheme 6 is worth 1659 while 14 (1024) + 23 (653) = 1677, so GC effectively get the Adelaide F1 for Flanders and retain the points they need for Uwland and Patterson. We get Flanders and an early pick for some JT magic. Adelaide get the key to unlocking a flag.

He's not moving away forever.

Secondly it's called a plane and phone,

Lastly, entitled city folk, boo hoo have to move from home, god forbid you have to make a sacrifice and get highly paid all on your own terms.

Before his awful injury Trac was first or second in last year's Brownlow tally. Yes, his disposals arent perfect but he was up among the very best players for four or five years. He'd be the perfect player for quite a few teams to go after - they pay unders , he returns to top form and even wins next year's Brownlow (and another premiership medallion) He'll be 30, not 36. And god forbid if a niggling long-term complaint is fixed by new doctors or some mindfulness-type technique has him regain his poise and his disposal efficiency is never questioned again. I sure hope King and his new team can work their wonders on this star. I sure hope he has next year and they can try to 'redeem' him.

  • AFLW REPORT: West Coast

Melbourne’s response to last week’s heartbreak was emphatic, as the Demons delivered a statement win over West Coast at a windswept Casey Fields. All of the pre-match hype surrounded the coach’s box matchup of Mick Stinear up against his apprentice, Daisy Pearce along with the gloomy weather forecast. In the end, it was less about tactical chess and more about Melbourne’s relentless execution. With rain looming, the DeeArmy and early birds snapped up the best undercover viewing spots.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: West Coast

Epic battle alert.  This Sunday, Casey Fields hosts a coach’s showdown pitting the wits of the master Mick Stinear (92 games, 71.7% win rate) against his protégé Daisy Pearce (16 games, 43.8%). Still early in her coaching journey, Daisy’s record doesn’t yet reflect her impact — but she’s already the best-performed coach at West Coast.Dais’ is mythic.  Like Katniss Everdeen, everyone either wants to kiss her, kill her (sporting metaphor) or be her.  Toothers Daisy Pearce is a role model, someone admired for their heart, humility and humour.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.
