2025 pre-season | A Petty perspective

Harrison Petty sits down to chat about his pre-season training as both a forward and defender

https://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/1712115/2025-pre-season-a-petty-perspective

Training forward and back in equal measure, formally, week-on-week-off. And he let slip some discomfort with this at one point.

After watching the match sim on the MFC website I looked up the team to get a few player numbers right.  When you look at the individual players, not only do they have their height, weight etc, they also have their relevant average stats per game and whether they are below average, average, above average or elite.    It makes some interesting reading.

I know all the men’s and women’s numbers because as an aid to falling asleep I go through them numerically in my head. It’s a sure-fire method which I was told about by a fellow-Demonlander at Gosch’s (can’t remember who, but thanks all the same 😊) and I’ve taken it further by going through them in reverse should I still be awake at the end of the list.

It wasn’t me, but it’s totally my ‘counting sheep’ equivalent too

It’s also good for when you’re in the dentist’s chair and all the more difficult at the start of the season when new numbers have been allocated. Like, who’s #12 is a bit issue when the dentist’s scraping around the molars.

And it works a treat, right?

Hitherto, my method was to start at 300 then subtract three over and over (297, 294, 291, etc.) ‘til you get to zero, before which time you’re usually asleep. This method works because it’s just enough to keep your mind from wandering but not so much that it’s stimulating and therefore keeping you awake.

In summary, footy can’t start soon enough. 😅

Absolute mistake saying Petts was indicating discomfort with the forward/back training setup this season.

He simply explained when he got to training he received a forward or back advice on his training situation  and was totally happy with the difference in this training.

Talking about  discomfort he at the start specifically mentioned his discomfort with his foot injuries last summer and in 2024.

Sorry Tim but your perception is not accurate about Harry’s discomfort.

Reckon Harry will be a star again in 2025 back or forward now that he is fully fit and over his foot issues. Will be pondering why he was played injuredandunderstandinglyperformed so average in 2024. ?

That’s real discomfort.!!

Thanks, 58er. 'Discomfort' too strong a word, sorry. I was referring to his 'It's a little bit confusing at times'. He appeared, actually, to like the variety it gives him at training; I just hope any confusion doesn't manifest in important little moments in games.

I don't particularly like this discussion about nationality versus ethnicity. However, I think one thing we can all agree on is that if you're a Melbourne supporter, you're always a Melbourne supporter.

There was that one weird bloke who turned into a Tigers supporter about a decade back… Dees Dayz to Tigers Dayz I think??

Your point totally stands tho…

I’m not sure about NGAs (I haven’t been able to find any lists of NGAs) but we have Ryder Brown and Marley Davey coming up as father/son players although they aren’t draft eligible until at least 2027.

On Marcus Prasad, at last report he’s 169cm but slight in build but considered freakish. I hope he grows in both height and weight by the time he gets to draft age.

Scouting Notes: 2024 Victorian Under 16 trials

#1 Marcus Prasad (Dandenong Stingrays)
Small Forward | 169cm | 23/03/2008

Skipper in game two, Prasad was one of the many crafty smalls on show throughout the day. His best play was a terrific finish on goal during the second quarter, where he squeezed the ball just inside the post with a low spearing kick. Prasad’s creativity was evident and he took a high mark in term four to add to his moments.

This kid smiles like I do.  I think I’m beaming and it always comes out like this.

Or maybe he’s like my son and would rather be dead than have to have a photo with his old man.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
