Farewell Judd McVee

Exactly right

Judd reckons players rule the roost, and he wants out.

But Judd also reckons he has the right to demand from his coach where he plays.

So he too, is trying to rule the roost.

The ironing is delicious.

But he’s a young guy, life changes minute to minute at that age.

It still baffles me that @doomsday dee was so convinced his attraction to Freo is for a positional opportunity and yet they spoke yesterday about Judd being a great “lockdown defender”…

Haven't they also said (or intimated) that they see him as a dashing half back

I wouldn't be believing anything that the clubs are saying right now. Ducks and drakes and posturing mostly

Yeah I know mate, we got an end of second round pick for him. Send that pick with Judd to Freo for 12.

Yes, my mistake.

He's not the first player to sook because he wants to play a role that brings more individual glory but isn't quite good enough compared to the other options.

The annoying thing is he very likely is good enough.

If he was good enough we wouldn't have needed to play Rivers, Bowey, Salem and Windsor who we'd love further up the ground, at half back.

We're not sending him to the PSD because this is the real world and not some fairytale demonland forum.

These people work and negotiate with each other every year they need to remain relationships otherwise the next time we want a player out of Freo they laugh in our face and demand the world.

I agree with what you're saying but did he actually demand such a thing?

I read it as another club recognises where he is best suited and that appeals to Judd

So he's off

That goes both ways. Offer us something decent so we don’t laugh in their faces next time we hold the whip hand.

Well, according to "definitely not his dad", he was lied to by Goody about his role, and he doesn't trust that King won't push him back to defend if we have injuries.

So yes he very much wants what he wants, and doesn't think he can get it at Melbourne. Freo, known for their honesty, success, and ability to get the best out of players, has obviously signed him to a contract that stipulates that he must never defend deep again.

I mean if you play for a side that's finished 14th twice in a row, and you can't crack a spot in the side that you want, maybe you are part of the problem.

But to each their own.

It looks like we will get a pick in the 20's I'd be happy with that. A pick in the 30's was a bit low.

Can we deathride Freo again? Future 1st somehow pls

With a Match Committee which has allowed the players to rule the roost

Also, not getting the best out of the 'said' players

Management was the issue, right across the board

Pres sacked, CEO sacked, Coach sacked, FD dismantled, a clueless MC and all sorts of issues at Board level etc etc

Who would want to play in that environment?

Far better players than Judd do.

It always amazes me how supporters of this club default to blaming this club for everything.

Judd was given a very good deal, which was amended multiple times at his request.

The Club only has itself to blame .. poorly run which led to a toxic environment

A lot like 2011 - 2013

A toxic environment that as of yet has lost 0 star players, with the exception of Jackson who wanted to go home.

It's no good scapegoating McVee

He's the least of our issues but a good example of consequences

we're so toxic Kozzie just committed his football career to us.

Ok then, the club is perfectly run

Well that's obviously because he's not being asked to play as a lock down defender

Nobody has ever said that.

Please show me what makes Freo a destination club... is it their smashing success of winning flags or is it their long history of taking star players and ruining their careers?

It’s giving massive Jeremy Howe vibes. And just like him I can see McVee changing clubs and still playing the same lock down defender role

Exactly. Fremantle are very good at laughing in faces and demanding the world without provocation.

So the players rule the roost and who is the captain? And what did he do about it?

I think theres a lot of finger pointing going on in this thread. For various reasons McVee needed to wait and earn his spot as an attacking HBF and wasn't prepared to.

For my two bits the the cause of this was AMW's injury that reduced our pool of quality back pockets and meant Judd had to bide his time longer than he was prepared to...

All the culture, coaching speculation is akin to astrology unless you have some hard data to support it.

BTW Judd's a Leo, who need to feel they are ruling the roost... so it all makes sense. ;)

No club is perfectly run. Plenty going on at Blues..Dons..Saints ATM & there would be issues at every club. Fact is we’ve put in place a new coach..CEO & President. We have an extremely talented young list with everyone re-signed. If Judd wasn’t interested in any of that ..then he can go but more disappointed in him than the club. I really don’t get all the vitriol you post about the club

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
