THE 2024 AFL NATIONAL DRAFT - DAY ONE

@Nascent gave a very good explanation of this strategy re Essendon trading similarly with Geelong last year to get Caddy.

Some other team was probably pitching a deal to WC for the pick to take Berry and Port needed to beat them to it.

Understood but unless that mystery team was next in line WC could have lost Bo Allan (especially as Freo was next in line.)

What time does the Draft Day 2 start?  Just saw the Topic entry. Forget I asked

That's true and probably what clinched the deal for Port.

TALKING POINTS | 2024 AFL Draft: Night One

My own key takeaway was the slow start to the night’s selections but once it got going, the selections moved a reasonable rate. I’m a bit more pessimistic about how things will pan out tonight. It could be a slow trudge to the finishing line with the predicted volume of live trades.

Mission accomplished in terms of getting hold of 2 x Top 10 picks and then using both picks on Mid/Fwd/Utility/HB/Link players

It's impossible to form a definitive view after perusing the highlight packages but both players look hungry for the contest and get to a lot of contests with both being left-footers with very efficient disposal skills

Traits that JT looks for

It should be remembered that Jason Taylor's track record is excellent when it comes to these types of players so in terms of trust, I'm all in

Landing pick #9 was a master-stroke in negotiating and all up, we have drafted 4 × first rounders over the last 2 off-seasons not long after winning a premiership

All 4 can play around the midfield with HB, HF & Wing being covered by the 4 as well.  All 4 look like versatile players

It's a very nice package ... well played the Demons Recruiting Team

What our next pick if we are going to use it?

75  - looked it up.... wonder if we'll use it.

Our best 22 next season might include pick 2 (tracc), pick 4 (oliver), pick 5 (langford), pick 7 (windsor), pick 9 (salem), pick 9 (melk), pick 11 (Francis), pick 12 (kozzie), pick 13 (Kolt), pick 15 (Jefferson) and pick 19 (JVR).

Our best 22 with six top 10 picks and 10 top 20 picks.

And that doesn’t include the winner and runner up in last year's bluey.

Not bad.

INDEED!

I think it is clear Langford plays straight away, glad Petty is going back. Smith plays for mine.

But your point is well made, it is definitely taking shape w/many of our top picks looking the goods at the moment. Who's Francis? Auto correct for Lindsay? haha love that kid and am SO glad we got him, total steal for mine. Uses ball well and makes EXCELLENT decisions, can play HB/HF easily. Bowser #21 also would be great on a wing if he gets the tank..
