No Change to the Sub Rule in 2025

Seems a silly rule to me. Just have 5 interchange.

Does any other sport in the world deem it necessary? Genuine question.

Forget the sub rule, get rid of this basket case, STAND RULE🤮🤮🤮

In soccer they're all subs.

I think they could reduce rotations further (say, to 50/game or even less) and get rid of the sub. Fewer rotations means there's less disadvantage to someone being injured and more strategy in managing interchange.

Genuinely thought they would get rid of it.

Reckon Melksham should be the semi regular sub next year. Can see him having impact in the last quarter of games, and I doubt at his age he could play week in week out of 24 rounds of footy.

Let's hope the Turner on / JVR off sub was a Goody one off!

I would have thought it a no brainer to at least allow sub on whilst any concussion protocol is in progress. It encourages completion of the SCAT test as a team will not be a man down (several clubs have used on ground assessments this season and then cited delayed concussion. If player passes the concussion protocol, then the sub can come back off. A simple positive OHS play.

There is no advantage to having a sub versus a 5th interchange. If a player is injured, the difference between 4 and 5 on the bench is negligible.

The advantage of having 5 on the bench is a young player doesn't lose fitness/continuity in his game and need to go to the VFL and train after a game at 11pm at night

The AFL love it as do the TV rights holders as it gives the boundary riders something to talk about when it’s not windy and raining sideways... I love when they cross downstairs to the boundary and they say that the sub is warming up, but they have been on the ground 5 minutes and already had 10 touches and a goal!

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
