It smells like Carlton are freeing up space for Houston. In which case, we drive a hard bargain and could get him cheap (pick in 40s). I think he’d do well taking the defensive mid role with flexibility to play forward also. I’m all for it - we need more depth in this area.

Not just freeing up space - looking for assets to acquire Houston.

I don’t think we want to be anywhere near any of their discards, unless virtually free, and even then I’m suspect.

I think he could be handy for us but we are obviously not interested.

The game is demanding more speed and Kennedy does not offer this

Maybe, but Cripps and Tracc are not speedy and they go ok.

He is a big bodied mid, who can drift forward and score and who would come cheap.

He also is a good culture team first guy, as evidenced in the last final, where he left his wife and baby to fly to Brisbane for the game.

I would rather him than Billings or Laurie.

See below, Cal Twomey on Langford. Sound like anyone?

"Harvey Langford is the other one who has to be considered. I'm a big Harvey Langford fan," Twomey said.

"I don't worry about him not being super quick because I think he's a finals player. He's a metres gained player and he marks well above his head. He's been good as a goalkicker this year - 20-plus goals - and he's a big guy. Walking next to him at the Combine, he's a big presence as a midfielder."

Please don’t compare Kennedy to Cripps and Trac

You can't compare Kennedy to Cripps and Tracc but he is a good honest footballer who can play several roles if needed. A handy club man who tries at whatever role he is thrown.

I hope he isn't traded by Carlton now, he sits on 99 games for the Blues and has a baby son, Theodore (just thinking ahead .... 😁) ... he is a handy player to have around.

His best position is being ripped away from his newborn just to be subbed off

Harmes now has an injury history that they need to cover, not to mention upgrade. Kennedy can play on all 3 lines. Neither of them are best 22 if Sanders and the other speedier young kids kick on. Will be interesting to see if they accept Caleb Daniel’s North deal if they land Kennedy. Getting off Macrae and Daniel’s salaries should help them if they can land someone next year (big if though, small clubs keep struggling to attract quality).

It’s a bit like Billings in to cover Hunter. None of it is sexy but you got to try to make the best out of what you’ve got when you’re in a window, which the Dogs still are if Libba, Treloar and peak Bont exist.
