AFLW Contracts and list details

Yeah it sounds like Eden likes the quieter life having grown up in a rural town.

I'd say freo would be perfect for her. If she thinks Melbourne's big then I'd say don't move to Perth.

It will be disappointing to lose her.

The big names who could be on the move in the 2025 AFLW Trade Period - https://www.afl.com.au/news/1456821

Article states freo likely destination for Zanker. We are expecting to be well compensated. Gold Coast have multiple academy players (sounds familiar) and likely to trade out the number 1 pick for further points... Dees in the conversation pending Zanker compensation.

Layla Ebert has got another year.

I thought she showed a fair bit as a small defender this season and has also shown enough to suggest there's a fair bit of scope to develop further.

Won't make headlines but a really good signing.

Yeah, she was really good. I'm so surprised she was just adrift near the end of last year's selection period.

Hmm. I reckon she was more than adequate.

Maybe this is another example of me having absolutely no idea about the defensive side of the game.

Honestly, I thought she looked capable during her handful of performances.

But is a small list and spots are premium.

I suspect they have a good handle on who will be reconstracted, who they want to recruit and how many to draft.

Yes, I agree with you @deanox . Denby played very well against Geelong and was very unlucky to be dropped for the Preliminary Final, but someone had to make way for Chaplin and Zanker to come back into the side. I'm surprised that Denby hasn't been offered a contract.

Happy to see Ebert get another year. We've definitely done well with turning injury replacement players into regulars over the years!

Really tough for Denby though. I thought she made the most of her opportunities.

That de-listing puts us at 29 players plus 2 "inactive".

I'm sure you're right. Geeze, it's brutal, though.

Colvin calls time | Thank you Gab

Gabrielle Colvin has retired from the game

Unsurprising after injury kept her out a lot of the season, and given her age. But has been a solid squad contributor over the journey.

I love Bertie. She’s coming along nicely and will only get better because she’s dedicated and hardworking. I’ve really bonded with her - her energy is infectious and she has a great sense of humour. I’m delighted she’s been given a contract extension. 🥳

Hey @Ghostwriter

A couple of questions for you, or anyone else who has information, if ok

Can you give updates please on Jacinta Hose and Amelia Dethridge. I remember the club was pretty bullish on Jacinta’s athletic profile particularly for a player standing at 185cm. And Amelia has a Wotherspoon type background being elite in hockey, swimming and cross country. She is listed as a 172 mid which is pretty much exactly what we need. What happened to her this year?

Thank you in advance

Jacinta is still rehabbing from a back injury. I’ve seen her come so far over time at training. She’s now sprinting and is not far off being fully fit.

A couple of months ago Amelia told me she needed to work on improving her skills. She’s a very accomplished athlete in several sports as you mentioned and now that she’s focusing just on footy it won’t take long for her to get to the required standard. She’s a strong, solid girl who’d be hard to bring to ground. Looking forward to seeing her out on the park.

Had some really bad luck with injuries over the journey and just bad timing. But I'll always remember she was best on for us in the 2022A Grand Final and how much of a loss she was going into the premiership season. Seems like she's been a great person around the club as well.

Gabby's a great person. Her last few years have been cruelled by injury. I now have a hope she might go back to Darebin and play a few season with the Falcs. 😁

Gabs is awesome. Always has time for fans, she’s fun and engaging, always smiling, even when knocked down with yet another injury. It’s gonna be strange not seeing her around the club. And by strange I really mean sad. 😞

  • 3 weeks later...

Rigoni delisted, it seems.

7 listed players still out of contract (no news):

  • Dethridge

  • O'Herir

  • Goldrick

  • Hose

  • Mahony

  • Mackin (Aimee)

  • Paxman

We had 2 extras on the list (due to two inactive players.

We currently have 5 out (Colvin, Zanker, Taylor, Johnson, Rigoni) and 2 in (Mia Austin, Aoife Horisk).

So that means we have one list spot, unless we have players remaining on the inactive list.

We have picks 9 and 14, and then 53 and 71. We seemed quite happy to trade out 2nd round picks.

So my guess is one more delisting to go, and we only use 2 picks in the draft.

Wow. Rigoni delisted ?? Off to Collingwood!!! I guess the contract offer was perhaps something too good to match. Her pace was just something to build on and her skills were fine for a young player. Not sure what’s happened. The list squeeze is forcing tough calls !

Really tough.

Denby Taylor and now Rigoni.

I also find it quite bizarre that our two top draftees from last year are without a contract almost a full month after the end of the season.

I suspect the tiered salary system is a bastard to work with as a list manager.

Draftees get 2-year contracts - so all our draftees from last year are in contract until end of 2026.

Good to hear. That makes much more sense.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
