TMac was very, very good this year.

Had some lesser games late, but was one of the best returns on expectations.

Tmac & Melk deserve one more. Hopefully just to top up Casey.

Now that our 2024 season is officially over should we consider resting some of our star veterans who are or may be carrying some injuries like Max and Clarrie?

Hi Boys thanks for the podcast.

Is it really a simple game?

No team has a team of elites.

Are versatility and pace where we should be heading in 2025?

Multiskilled talls and faster running players

What should be the game plan if contest and defence is too hard?

I thought Kozzy bounced back really well this week after copping criticism from Kane Cornes during the week. I know Kane is a serial contrarian and a master click baiter but I reckon he is way off on his assessment of Kozzy particularly when you compare him to his contemporary small forwards. Granted he can be inconsistent but so too many small forwards in their formative years of their AFL careers.

A poster on Twitter called Footy Degenerate posted some comparison goal stats of some of Kozzy's small forward competitors and their goal kicking stats in their first 5 years.

Footy Degenerate writes "Kozzy PICKETT : 155 @ 1.50

Tom PAPLEY : 146 @ 1.47

Cyril RIOLI : 140 @ 1.32

Eddie BETTS : 123 @ 1.26

Izak RANKINE : 119 @ 1.47

Charlie CAMERON : 104 @ 1.23"

Footy Degenerate continues "I reckon he’s goin alright

He’s just turned 23 and plays the hardest position on the ground.

Could he move up the ground more like a Cyril Rioli and get more ball?

Sure. He could comfortably do that.

Unfortunately he doesn’t have a Buddy Franklin / Roughead / Bruest Fwd line to give him that luxury.

He has one of the worst Forward Lines around him so they need to keep him i50 and can only be thrown into the middle momentarily.

The tall blokes don’t halve a contest often enough i50 to bring it to ground for him and we have the 5th lowest i50 rate in the AFL.

Opportunities are scarce.

Could he do better? Of course he could.

But Like all 23 yr olds, their best footy is ahead of them.

Let the kids grow Kane."

What do you guys reckon of the criticism of Kozzy by Kane and Footy Degenerate's assessment and Kozzy's response this week?

I felt like I asked this in one of the non Q & A eps so I'd like to bump it again but apologies in advance if it's been covered already on an ep I missed, would be great to hear everyone's thoughts:

"If Ed Langdon were going to the Paris Olympics, what would be his pet event on the track? 800m/1500mm/5k/10k/Marathon/something else?"

Can we get some comment on the last two minutes of the game. Why are we incapable of pressing forward and manning up. Is this a coaching issue and if so did it ultimately cost us the game.

Salo is a brilliant distributor. He has had an interrupted season. And Sparrow has had a down year, as many young players do. I expect him to bounce back in 2025.

Sparrows never had an up year!

It was a low scoring game on a perfect night for footy. Any concerns that our 3 key forwards, Rooey, Petts and Disco failed to hit the scoreboard? I was happy that Petty and Turner were able to clunk marks up the ground but I have grave concerns over both of them being able to take marks, providing a leading option and score goals regularly inside 50?

Now that we have had almost a whole season of these guys playing out of their natural positions as defenders how have you rated their performances as forwards and are you hopeful that they can play and contribute as forwards in 2025 and beyond and help us reclaim a finals berth?

We had two players, Woey and Bowey pull out of the game because of illness prior to the match. Do you think a few other players were under the weather, perhaps with COVID? Clarry, questions marks on fitness due to interrupted preseason aside, certainly seemed off the ball. A few others as well. Yes there are also questions marks on our general fitness and ability, or lack thereof, to run out games but do you think our lack of run in the last could be put down to illness in the squad?

Tomo sometimes gets a bad rap from Demonland and obviously the match committee don't rate him as he only seems to get considered when we have an injury. Having said that I always things he is commendable whenever he plays in the ones only to get relegated back to Casey when the cavalry arrives back. What were your thoughts on Tomo's game and the backline in general this week?

Spot on. We shut down a side that had just beaten top of the ladder by 100+

Those critical of Goodwin, won’t give him any credit for this, it was a master stroke of coaching.

Those wanting us to bite off more 45 angle kicks in, may I remind you of Tmac’s direct turnover off half back?

Cmon @dazzledavey36 Since Petracca has gone down. Goodwin has polished the [censored] as well as he can!

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
