Feel like we will do OK this week be much more competitive than last....not sure we will win but should be up for the fight

Hope springs eternal. Wish we could be a little more assured of a positive result.

Tomlinson is actually a good matchup for Dixon, and if you watch Port you know they're quite tall up forward so clearly the height of Hore will be needed over Howes

As for AMW, he hasn't had great defensive games in the last two weeks, but he's made his debut and shown enough to retain a spot on the list. I am sure he is very happy and very understanding of where he is at. Both he and Howes finally made their long awaited debuts and now have a pre-season to work as hard as possible to build on what they know they lack to be a top AFL player.

It is really rare for players to play full season in their debut years. McVee and Windsor were absolute anomalies, and frankly prior to injury you could see Windsor physically struggling. That is completely ok, and I think most young players now are very realistic about the path to becoming regular senior players.

We've seen loads of even first round picks come in and out of sides regularly, hell even Reid hasn't played every game and his team suuuuucks!

Confused by this.

Which bit of the Hore's height is needed over Howes part am i missing??

Hore plays tall. Howes has never played as a tall he’s always been an interceptor and ground ball player. Has he ever lined up on a key forward? If so my memory has gone to [censored], which is possible as I’m old

I can't recall Hore lining up on any key forward either. One of Hores biggest strength is his intercept marking and ability read the play which Howes does well also.

Howes at times has had to play on the taller types but also play on the smalls such as Shai Bolton and Willie Rioli. That's where's Howes versatility is much suited to our back 6 then people give him credit for.

Howes also has more athletic traits then Hore which is where he has struggled more on the smaller opponents at ground level. Hore isn't overly quick.

Writing all that was an absolute tongue twister

I don’t disagree that Howes is more talented and versatile. I’m a big fan and think he will make it, but he’s been dropped a few times this year and my best guess is that the FD don’t rate his defensive efforts much at the moment. It’s also why I think AMW has been dropped.

IMO Howes will end up a half back flanker or winger. He isn’t much of a one on one defender, but he’s a beautiful user and reader of the footy.
I hope now that he’s finally had a taste after so many injury setbacks, that he goes off and has the pre season of his life and does a Judd McVee in 2025.

Perhaps Dostoevsky’s ‘Crime and Punishment’ should be on the reading list too. A barrel of laughs apparently. Keeping on topic Dostoevsky also wrote ‘Demons’ another ripper novel.

I've recently read 'Things Fall Apart' by Chinua Achebe. I bought it, convinced it would detail our 2024 season. Alas, it was about African colonization; not a single reference to forward structure, 'play Jeffo now' or 'Goody must go'. Pointless.

One of the great ( if not well known) novels of all time.

Completely agree BBO. Masterful.

Woewodin out, Billings in. Pup to the emergency list and Laurie removed from it. Can only presume Laurie is sick otherwise it's a big middle finger to him.

Edit: Woewodin listed out with illness.

I'm going to the captains run at Gosches on Friday. However the time says TBC in the website. I'm guessing the time is usually at 9.45am.

Did you get there Storm Boy, if so any observations that you would like to share??

Not a fan of Billings.

I don’t think we’re a chance at all as we’ll be smashed in the middle but Port’s forward line is pretty trash without Georgiades. Dixon is washed up, Ratugolea is a defender and Marshall has had a really poor season.

If our midfield wasn’t the worst in the comp at clearances we’d probably win this game.

Yes, I did go to Gosches this morning. Steve May did some sprinting alongside boundary. I said to Mayzie you are moving very well and he gave me a smile back to me and said to me "I even surprised myself. " However Mayzie didn't join the contact skills after the warm ups. Mayzie joined the Casey group later once goal kicking started.

I got there before everyone else and once the playing group arrived, feeling and the vibe was very good which took me by surprise. Jack Viney was late to arrive with heavy strapping around his knee and Max moved well considering he had an ankle brace. Salem moved quite well I thought.

I didn't realise that Koltyn Tholstrup looks so much taller and strong up close up and Melksham was guiding Tholstrup.

The Skills Session was focused on connection and went longer than expected.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
