Having closely studied MFC over the past couple of years I'm convinced that they have become the most predictable team in the AFL. By this I mean that the majority of other teams have Melbourne worked out and have implemented successful opposing strategies and tactics. An example of predictable patterns are as follows: 1. Jake Lever deciding to take on his opponent on foot, only to get caught holding the ball. 2. Getting the ball inside the opposition 50 regularly, only to fail at achieving a goal. 3. Defence, defence, defence 4. The Harrison Petty forward experiment. 5. Inconsistent hot and cold form of individual players (Chandler, Turner, Petty) 5. Overrated players (Fritsch). The writing on the wall was no more clearly demonstrated than that timid loss to West Coast Eagles in Perth. Contrast that against a hungry up and coming Hawthorn who not only went to Perth to take on WCE but came away with a performance of a team going somewhere, which MFC sadly isn't. Goodwin and his backroom staff are average at best

The reasoning here is way off 3165.

Case in point Fritta being ‘overrated’. He is clearly dangerous and has preformed over a long period of time. Goodwin is a premiership coach. Chandler is the new ANB and his defensive pressure is very good.

I don’t bag ppl for their negative view. I just point out the those who want to bag the club because they are not happy and blame individuals who are not the problem.

My view is the top 4 to 6 players are down on form due to various reasons, and our bottom six are babies.

I believe next year will be different.

Then point that out with your point of view, yes I have been guilty of that but I have always put my point of view before people jump in, I will say this if more people did that then there would be less agro we can then debate the issue or if people think a topic has been flogged before don't comment then that post will just stop a natural death.

Not everyone will be happy with the club and as a forum this is a place for people to have a say right wrong or indifferent.  I am a big believer if someone can put an argument forward where I can see where they are coming and they are right I can admit that, people have to have an open mind both ways.

I’m very happy to call ppl up on their bulls#$t when they call our players without reason or qualifying their statement. That is my statement… calling it out.

Soz bud. But I’m not sure if people are being bagged for their negative attitude on here. They are being bagged for their short sighted week to week idea of the club and players.

Are you not just “calling people out “ ( “on their bulls#$t” ) for having a different opinion to you?

Seems to be some misunderstanding about the Fritsch overrated comment. To be very clear, I am not talking about his overall form over the last 2 or 3 years. I'm referring to his contribution right now, when it's so badly needed. He has not been the same force for some time now. So, the 'overrated' comment relates to him right now, not the past. Also, an earlier reply asked who I barrack for. The answer is Melbourne. And I repeat, Simon Goodwin and his coaching staff are average at best and highly responsible for Melbourne being such a predictable team. It may have been said a thousand times but only one way to stop having it said altogether. Lose the predictability. I love the team but had them finishing just outside the eight from what I could see even before Round 1. 9th or 10th at best this year, and sorry, but I don't see them making the eight next year. They are TOO PREDICTABLE. Take that to the bank.

Fritta still averaging 2 goals a game or thereabouts in 2024. How nice for you and him. Unless I'm mistaken, he's there to kick goals every week. My point is about his current form. Your point is simply to defend him. So here are his goal stats over recent weeks - R11 v St Kilda = 2 goals. R12 v Fremantle = 0. R13 v Collingwood =1. R14 (Bye). R15 v North Melbourne = 0. R16 v Brisbane =1. If you are in any way able to keep your focus on current performances, defend this. I'm sure you'll find a way. All you have to do is go into the past while Melbourne continues to fall in the present, and Fritsch continues on a similar path of 'not enough goals'.

5. Overrated players

Even if Fritta can be considered overrated, what’s this got to do with predictability? 🤔

This question ⬆️ remains unanswered.

That’s all well and good. But again, what’s this got to do with us being predictable? I’m genuinely curious.

Whereas I’m NOT defending him. He’s currently in a form slump, even he’ll tell you that. But I’m curious as to how his form slump contributes to our supposed predictability. 🤷‍♀️

If you wanna express your view that he’s overrated it would be less confusing (for me at least) if you’d do so in a relevant thread, or even a newly created thread.

Can't disagree that he's had a poor 5 weeks by his standards, but law of averages suggests that there's a 5, 6 or 7 goal game around the corner.

I think he is getting extra attention as sides have worked out that if you stop him you dry up our scoring options. Will be worse without Tracc to swing forward for periods.

Was certainly getting extra attention at the Gabba.

Do I have to spell it out. If I'm an opposition AFL coach I predict that Fritsch is not going to kick a bag full of goals against my team anytime soon. therefore, I'll put an effective game plan in place knowing he is not the real deal. Last 5 Melbourne games Fritsch has a total of 4 goals. He is predictable. Low goal returns. You've now got your answer

As regards to Fritta I thought the game against the lions was OK as for being  predictable he has some lazy moments during games where if he cannot get a one on one he has a tendency no to chase if he cannot get the ball out the back he drops his head and quite frankly if it's wet he can be a liability, that's called a front runner and that's predictable, but he has talent and sometimes you you have to take the good with the bad as he can deliver all teams have these types of players and we are no exception.

I did notice a bit more urgency in his game, but remember he would be one of the easiest players in any forward line to keep away from the ball if it can be done under the cognisance of the several true maggots in our game

They did that last week. Fritsch played a selfless role to negate Andrews (who is a much bigger bloke than Fritta) and did damn well.

To the extent that Petty clunked more marks than he has at any other time this year and Roo hit the scoreboard a couple of times.

Fritsch also kicked a goal and missed a couple. That last shot was most unfortunate, didn't miss by much & he would generally nail it (and most importantly we might have managed a draw or even a sneaky win had he kicked it).

Like a few others, signs were good v Brisbane. We'll know on Sunday if that form was fleeting or a sign of things to come.

Well yes, you DO have to spell it out as I clearly didn’t understand hence the asking of the question.

Both @Left Foot Snap and @demon3165 explained it more than adequately and in a non-belligerent manner. Their answers suffice.

  • PREVIEW: West Coast

Saturday’s election night game in Perth between the West Coast Eagles and Melbourne represents 18th vs 15th which makes it a tough decision as to which party to favour. The Eagles have yet to break the ice under their new coach in Andrew McQualter who is the second understudy in a row to confront Demon Coach Simon Goodwin who was also winless until a fortnight ago. On that basis, many punters might be considering to go with the donkey vote but I’ve been assigned with the task of helping readers to come to a considered opinion on this matter of vital importance across the nation. It was almost a year ago that I wrote a preview here of the Demons’ away game against the Eagles (under the name William from Waalitj because it was Indigenous Round).  I issued a warning that it was a danger game, based on my local knowledge that the home team were no longer easybeats and that they possessed a wunderkind generational player in Harley Reid who was capable of producing stellar performances playing among men a decade and more older than he.  At the time, the Eagles already had two wins off the back of a couple of the young man’s masterclasses and they had recently given the Bombers a scare straight after their Anzac Day blockbuster draw against the then reigning premiers.

  • NON-MFC: Round 08

Round 08 of the 2025 AFL Season kicks off on Thursday with a must-win game for the Bombers to stay in touch with the top eight, while the struggling Roos seek a morale-boosting upset. Friday sees the Saints desperate for a win as well if they are to stay in finals contention and their opponents the Dockers will be eager to crack in to the Top 8 with a win on the road. Saturday kicks off with a pivotal clash for both sides asthe Bulldogs look to solidify their top-eight spot, while Port seeks to shake their pretender tag. Then the Crows will be looking to steady their topsy turvy season against a resurgent Blues looking to make it 4 wins on the trot. On Election Night a Blockbuster will see the ladder-leading Pies take on the Cats, who are keen to bounce back after a narrow loss. On Sunday the Sydney Derby promises fireworks as the Giants aim to cement their top-eight status, while the Swans fight to keep their season alive. The Hawks, celebrating their centenary, will be looking to easily account for the Tigers who are desperate to halt their slide. The Round concludes on Sunday Night with a top end of the table QClash with significant ladder implications; both Queensland teams are in scintillating form. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
