Sunday becomes a massive game for us now. Stay injury free and we can take care of the Pies next week.  After the bye it's North, Lions, Eagles & Bombers. Three of those at the MCG. Definitely not getting ahead of myself but this one could set us up. Stop them at the source and we're a real chance. I hope we're not carried away with last weeks win. Saints awful.  Having said that,it was a huge win and encouraging signs. Imagine if we can get a bigger output from Petty, Mcadam and, to a lesser extent, Fritsch. Even Clarry and Viney have a cog or two they can add. Good at their best Freo but still putting some store on the fact we have played in Alice Springs 11 times and this is their first.

Playing the eagles twice in what , 6 weeks?

The draw is hopeless

Looking at the average number of goals kicked by our fwd line players this year and there is reason for concern.

Not sure we have this one.

Same old story in that we don't have enough talent fwd.

Unless Petty comes good in this game, we will lose.

Presently sifting through a ratings comparison of how our boys are fairing in a form sense.

Comparing their first six games, Rnds 0 - 5, with the next, Rnds 7 to 12.  I'm almost finished the entire set bar tomorrow's game.

The stand out in terms of not looking good so far...   Chandler.

He must be playing injured.

Almost every single metric is a disaster post our bye round ie;  from round 7 onwards.

The only area of improvement is tackles, which is most likely an indication he is second to the ball.... alot!

I'm very surprised he's still playing to be honest and also that we haven't procured a replacement in the last few weeks.  The FD would be seeing this drop off also it's that alarming.

We are effectively playing a man down here if he continues to be impeded by the ongoing leg / knee issue.

Add to that Petty's form / no JVR and boy, we are way behind the eight ball up forward heading into tomorrow if they both fail again.

We have also lost an average of 1.2 goals a game from ANB & Kozzy post the bye but gained most of that back through Petracca who has gone from 0.7 goals per game to 1.8 in the same period after being moved into a mostly forward role.

dont give a [censored] how they do it, win big, smash em, win ugly, just get over Freo unscathed. Then throw the kitchen sink at the pies next week and beat them with our best footy. [censored] em.

I hope their plane falls out of the sky when they land in Melbourne to play us. [censored] em

Charming. I have no idea why someone would post that.

I do.

It’s called venting. Where’s the harm in it?

Chin looked great in the Captain's Run today. No bandages, no restrictions, moved smoothly and efficiently. He's not injured now, that's for sure. Tipping a good game from him tomorrow.

With our ever changing forward line, slightly changed backline, lack of real backup for Max and against the Dockers, I am worried about this game.

Thanks for the update FM.  Fingers & toes crossed.

Amazing win that - but seriously don't even think about stressing my heart like that again.

An absolute genuine 50/50 game.

They’re only a half game and 5% behind us and have beaten us 3 out of the last 5 games. Freo have definitely caused us problems under Longmuir.

Will be a statement win IMO if we can get it done, with opportunities to come between rounds 13-17.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
