TRAINING: Monday 1st April 2024

Recommended Posts

BBB may be rested for Schache, as no point in destroying what's left of his knee, with a 5 day break.

Crows are not strong in key backs, so Schache could go ok.

Given the training reports of Chin looking upset, it could be Kolt in for his first.

I think Woey will get a full game, as he was sub and is fresh from Saturday.

Have a sneaking suspicion that Kolt could get a call up this week given they've flown him up and with clouds over Chin & perhaps Trac.

After watching the session this morning im thinking the same, cant see Chandler playing.

But I imagine if selected Kolt we be the sub as I think Woey deserves to start.

Trac looks fine, no strapping, just not his normal self. The only people with noticeable strapping are Chin and Tom Mc

Tracc can be super up & about then give the impression of being a bit down and grumpy at times (on the track) from what i've witnessed.

Might be just his nature or could be carrying something?  He wanted to keep to himself (mostly) coming off the track last week and looked a little forlorn.

I have a feeling Trac and Clarry are both playing with one hand tied behind their back(s).

In the Hawthorn game Trac was in visible discomfort with one of his hands and it was the one he ran 100m to punch the ball through for aa point with

Yes i noticed that against the Hawks.  Hopefully not much in it.  No doubt many of the boys are carrying stuff we never hear about.

Had a good game at Casey.

If Chandler doesn't get up he could be in.

PS Given that the sub is no longer a "medical" sub I wonder if we will relax the policy of debutants not being named as the sub

There is of course Laurie who would come into consideration if Chandler is not available

Feel like Woewodin would be the choice to come in, then you push Billings into the forward line and have Laurie as sub. To me that’s obvious, would love to see Kolt though.

We really should have been scheduled to play Port on the Friday night giving us a 6 day break. The AFL should try to avoid 5 day breaks as much as possible if not at all.

Every team has to have at least one based on the fixture. I think this trip will be very fruitful for us. Light/limited training week into a game is fine in my opinion and the players will tell you that too.

Even if BB didn’t get up, I doubt we’d go with Schache. Can play Petty forward if May is fit and if not, Tomo can come into to let Petty go forward. Then play Kolt as a medium forward if we have to.

lots of options before having to consider Schache again. Surely!

Schache wasn't brought up with Kolt so I doubt he is in consideration unless he is flown over in the next day or so.

Schache is in Adelaide and did fly up with Kolt as per the training gallery and posters on this thread😂

Great thoughts. Do you see any merit in Tomlinson back in for TMac going forward?

His name wasn't mentioned in the training reports except to say that there was no sign of him.

I don’t see Tom going forward now he has slotted in down back, BUT that is obviously a possibility.

I am just unsure who Goody has less faith in now, Tommo or Schache.

TMc will not go forward until at least May is 100%. Even then i think his days forward are likely done plus he adds a bit back.

Would not be surprised to see Kolt come in if Chandler (who played well) does not come up.

Bendigo_Demon did say he was there. Page 1.

seems as though it may have been lost in translation but the post says no sign of Chandler, then Schache, McAdam and Kolt here too.

I interpreted it as Schache is there with McAdam and Koltyn. Can see how others interpreted as him not being there though.

Schache was definitely there. When the team bus arrived, there was a heap of whooping and hollering in the rooms, then lots of love for McAdam on the field. That’s why I got the impression he might debut. I don’t think the selectors will make any decisions until Wednesday night, but with Chin, considering it’s his good knee that was strapped heavily, and his general demeanour, I don’t think he’ll play. BBB and T Mac will definitely be wait and see.

lol. I interpreted it the other way and at the time was wondering why Schache and Kolt were mentioned at all not thinking there were coming over particularly because they just played at Casey.

Poor Casey might need to pick some Demonlanders to play for them this week.

That was my first thought until I realised Casey play Saturday so those players who didn’t play will have flown back by then to suit up against the Borough! 😂

If Chandler is in doubt would they consider AMW? Has been consistent in the VFL and seems a like for like?

McAdam still seems a week or two away.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
