As a consequence, he spent seven games at VFL level although he fought back into the side late in the season.

Quiet season for Spargo.

Hoping he gets back to his best in 24.

Actually Kozzie and  Anb had quiet ones as well. Chandler started in a fanfare and disappeared. Kozzie still scored goals but didn't seem to impact games like last year.

But back to Spargo, I will say he always finds a teammate with his pin point disposals.

Yes agree with all above we need Charlie back to his best in 2024, tackling, putting on pressure and hitting up targets in the forward 50 and consistently nailing those snags from within 40.

If Spargo played vs the pies, we win the flag. For me it's that simple.

Agreed, much more mongrel than Laurie, who might as well not have been out there.  In fact, at this point, I don't see that Laurie offers anything different from Spargo, but with less bite.  Given the plethora of players we have around this size and skill set, I do think Laurie is going to find it difficult breaking into the team, but I'd be happy to be proven wrong.

I think Laurie is a cleaner finisher than Spargo

I like this line of thinking. Offering solutions to that game rather than making excuses.

Surprised he’s only averaged 0.7 goals a game in his career for someone that’s lined up in the forward line for basically every game.

Definitely in the mix next year.

Both massively overated. Spargo will struggle for a game with Mc Adam and Billings in the side. Out of contract in 25, I expect him to be elsewhere!

Goal kicker yes.  Link/pressure player no.  IMHO obviously.  I will watch with interest.

Last year was similar to his 2nd and 3rd year, players like Chandler and McAdam will put lots of pressure on him to get back into the AFL team.

Ordinary footballer who would have been well advised to look for another club in the off season given the ridiculous number of small & medium forwards we currently have on our list.

Doesn't win enough of his own football, doesn't kick enough goals, doesn't apply enough defensive pressure - it's a bad combination for a guy who is coming into his 7th season.

Melbourne Demons forward Charlie Spargo boasts the AFL’s best mark rate from kicks inside 50

Granted this was 2022, but Laurie and others will be doing well to better this.

Charlie clearly showed what he's about in the final against Carlton, was one of our better players that night.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
