Agree with the first part, however Curnow will absolutely destroy Tomlinson with his athleticism. Surely plays on resting ruck like Pittonet or TDK.

Tomlinson as a resting ruck. That’s a joke?

Ch 7 going with Tomlinson over Hibberd.

Listed a range of other players to come in but Grundy wasn’t one of them.

Absurd to expect tmac to ruck 20% of the game whilst also trying to play up forward. Will be the worst selection decision in goodwins entire tenure

We kept Colli wood to 60 points. Defence wasn’t our issue

Cameron and Mcstay took 3 contested marks in dangerous spots out marking the likes of Rivers. If you want Lever to mark in front of Curnow all night, you’re bringing in Tomlinson.

Ins:  Tomo, Turner, JJ, Spargo

Outs:  Salem (omitted), JVR (susp), Gus (conc) & Chandler (omitted)

Tomo comes in for Salem to cover their resting ruck.

Allows Lever to play in his preferred role.

May to Curnow no brainer.

Hibbo to stay in playing a defensive role on Owies.

Turner for JVR

JJ for Gus.  Hard tag on Crippa.  Don't care if he only gets 5 possies.  Keep Crippa to 16 or so and a goal (max) and we should win.

Spargo for Chandler

Sub:  AMW or Woe

And who is the resting ruck?

I think Schache, Turner or Brown will come in for JvR.

Spargo will replace Laurie I think.

If you wanted Jamie Elliott to have kicked a bag you would have brought in Tomlinson instead of hibbo

Again, who is your resting ruck to go up against pitonet and tdk?

Plays on Carltons ruck when they're resting forward.

We have Petracca, Oliver and Viney in the middle but we continue to loose the centre clearance count.

Too many cooks in the kitchen...

Probably stating to get into pig headed territory if he refuses to once again play Grundy.

I totally support not playing 2 rucks if it’s wet, but the combo has actually worked in the first 13 rounds.

I would go with T Mac. He’s done it before, a little

Not ideal but we have a first year kid doing it usually.

Id personally rather we take a hit on an average 2nd ruck over carrying two first rucks

So after playing 1 afl game in almost 4 months you want tmac to take up rucking duties agains tdk? This is a joke?

Hibbo was a good matchup for Elliott but we don’t need him for Carlton I feel.

Tmac or Schache can do it.

Ins: Jordan, Tomlinson, Schache/Turner/Brown, Spargo (Sub)

Out: Brayshaw, JvR, Hibberd, Laurie (sub)

It wasn't really our defence that was good against Collingwood. We conceded a score of 60 (arguably more if Elliot kicked normally) off 39 inside 50s. Both of McStay goals were when he was matched up on Rivers, and Rivers was also seemingly on Cameron when he kicked his goal. We were definitely short down back and it detracted from Levers intercept and Rivers rebounding. Both are important to our fortunes and rivers in particular has become important to how we go forward.

The score conceded of 60 had more to do with the fact we basically had the ball for the entire last quarter, so they barely scored.

If tommo comes in, it's to play on the resting ruck, as May will be on Curnow. Lever will then take a small/midsized which allows him to play his intercepting role (and also get burnt the other way as he is prone to do).

I'm not fussed on Chandler or Spargo - take your pick. Either one could light up, either one could have 3 touches again.

Jordon is the last man standing for Gus.

Tmac and Smith can be the big forwards, with Fritsch the 3rd. That's arguably big enough down there without the need for Grundy or Gawn. I'd like to be able to swing Trac down there too, but then we'd ideally have another mid floating around somewhere. Maybe rivers is that name with Turner taking his spot at half back via sub.

On the basis of the above, Grundy doesn't play.

Am I wrong?

Sounds like Tomlinson, Turner and JJ are coming in. I think the club is trusting the best ruckman of the last 6 years to take in the ruck job by himself. King makes a good point on 360 that Gawn needs to tuck inside 50 to create better stoppages.

Just watching AFL 360, and Joey said Carlton’s forward entries have been awful against us. Apparently Carlton have only had 29 scoring shots from 92 entries against us in 2023. Its almost our lucky day that we’re playing a team just as inefficient as us on Friday night.

If no Grundy, which is expected, only ruck backup option is Smith. Will have to go with De Koning.
God speed.

Considering JvR and Tmac only had 2 hit outs in total on Thursday night I really think you’re putting too much weight into this. Even Spargo could chance a hit out.

JJ replacement for Brayshaw is obvious. Tomlinson replaces Hibberd and takes the testing ruck….solid. Turner…..not sure what his gig is!

Montagna said 19 but it’s actually 29 as per the graphic and you can go back and check the scores from round 12 and 22.

It’s not about winning a hitout, it’s about making sure your opposing ruckman isn’t getting a free run.
You don’t want their ruckman taking the ball out of the ruck unopposed.

To kick 5 goals on the night.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
