Out of an abundance of curiousity (to overcome my own ignorance), is conditioning something that the club helps the player build? Or does a player seek out their own advisers to do so, while recovering?

Each playing is giving an individual fitness, mostly running, program during their exit meeting which is aimed at ensuring the player returns for pre season in the right shape. If they donโ€™t, which we saw with McAdam pre Xmas 2024, they need to spend time seperate to the group doing running which is a set back.

The opposite is Salem, who did far too many KMโ€™s on an overseas trip and the club had to taper his involvement back to ensure no overload.

All players have a direct line to Selwyn during their break, an assigned buddy to complete running with and a 50 odd page guide on how to approach an off season.

Some players will rely on Selwyn heavily and others will seek their own fitness advisers.

And some players go running/training with their best mates from other clubs. And/or their own fitness adviser has players from a number of clubs and they have sessions together.

Thanks so much, DannyZ; very informative!

We should cut our losses.

Not sure thereโ€™s any particularly advantageous way of doing so..

What's in the 50-page guide? Surely it's not 50 pages of notes about running. Does it also include dietary advice? What else?

Sad what happened to him

Will be hard to come back from this kind of injury. The club wouldn't have known the future.

Well he had never played more than 12 games a season...

In his first season with us, we were disappointed with him.

In his second season, we were disappointed for him.

True supporters would hope that 2026 is a great season for him.

Forget the haunting of Round 11 โ€” weโ€™ve got this. Melbourne returns to its inner-city fortress for its milestone 100th AFLW match, carrying a formidable 10โ€“2 record at IKON Stadium. Brisbaneโ€™s record at the venue is more balanced: 4 wins, 4 losses and a draw.ย

Itโ€™s been a season of grit, growth, and glimpses of brillianceโ€”mixed with a few tough interstate lessons. Now, with finals looming, the Dees head to Kardinia Park for one last tune-up before the real stuff begins.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.
