What's his favourite melkshake flavour 🤣

when The Shake kicks a goal in the finals ... I'm doing "The MilkShake!"

Maybe play this song as the intro or during the PodCast after you come back from  a sponsors' break ... I think The MilkShake is our pin-up boy for September jus as Kossi was in 2021 and The Tractor in 2018 and Robbie was in 1987! (Robbie was our pin-up for every year from 1973!)

Can you ask him what is his top 5 goals for the MFC?

I will always remember the 2018 SF against Hawthorn and his game winning goal in the last quarter from outside 50.

where can you view this El ... on AFL.com.au?

Would definitely love to interview Choco. It's on my radar.

gee Choco is reticent ... I find that interesting as when he was coaching AJAX football (and head of its program for its multiple teams) he was happy to chat ... maybe at MFC it's different

hes a perfect examplre of a role model top football clubs need. Nobody would have him first 222 at this stage. How did he keep the fire in the belly playing at Casey for long periods ?

top Q Bay Riffen - and my Q - MilkShake: "your form in second half of 2023 ... how does it rate to other top form periods of your career, and, how hard is it for you and Hibberd  to keep yourselves in such top physical condition into your 30s?"

Sorry, two Qs but they are related

Hopefully Jake will go around again in 2024, please ask him if he intends to go on next year and what are his intentions post footy career, coaching, media other.!!

Yes! Please ask him this, Andy. TIA!

It's probably a bit too late to ask further questions I assume?

I would just like to know what his junior footy was like growing up in Glenroy and playing for the Calder Cannons in the Under 18s TAC Cup (as it used to be called)? He was a pretty talented junior player who won the "best on ground" on the TAC Cup Grand Final actually.

Who did Jake Melksham barrack for as a kid growing up? I think it may have been Essendon.

Anyway, looking forward to listening to the interview! 🙂

Are you coaching Corowa Rutherglen Football Club alongside your old man when you retire??

Looking forward to this one.

Extraordinary to think that Melksham has played the fifth most games out of all players from his draft, and is one of only 12 who have made it to the 200 game milestone. (Now including Gawn)

Not bad for a perennial whipping-boy. My Essendon-supporting ex hated him so passionately it made other pub patrons drop to awkward silences.

Also strange to think back that we had our eye on him with 2009 pick 11, before Essendon took him at 10. I wonder how he would have gone instead of Gysberts?

Just listened to the Melk interview. He is such a pleasure to listen to. He gives thoughtful answers and does try to answer the questions rather than just reach for a cliche. And I gave him points for not laughing when Andy posed a massively enthusiastic six-part question - or was it seven? - about that game-winning mark and goal. I might add I am thrilled that Melk is proving to be so valuable this year. I remember some deflating moments in our two 2022 finals when he had chances to score but his one wood - accurate kicking - seemed to desert him. He gets 10 out of 10 from me for persistence and for bouncing back strongly this year.

To be fair to me they were all part of the same question. I was just setting the scene. It's was a fantastic moment that any Dees fans who was there to witness it will never forget. It was great to get into his mind and hear it from the horses mouth.

Great interview, Andy! Thank you for asking the questions Demonlanders put forward, especially the one about whether he’ll play on next year; great question and even greater answer… a resounding YES! 🥳

Jake speaks so well and answered your questions in detail. He’s always so humble, I just love him. I also love Nibbla and was very happy to hear Jake explain Nibbla’s role. This is something the folks who unfairly malign Nibs need to hear. Binman has explained it beautifully on several occasions but I guess it falls on deaf ears.

Anyways, it’s awesome to hear Jake so positive and confident. He’s worked so hard for so long. He deserves the plaudits and hopefully he’ll enjoy the ultimate success. ❤️💙

I really like how you set up that question. You had us transported right back to that exact moment and I think also Melksy was there again, such was the way he answered.

Again, thank you for interviewing our special #18 ❤️💙

Thanks Andy, enjoyable interview. One of us should’ve put the question forward since he was right in amongst it.

I did think about when I was putting together the questions and I do have time constraints. In hindsight I probably should have had that one in instead of the accuracy one because I don't think he liked that one. 😬

It was a terrific interview Andy, with a couple of questions that I - as a journalist of 40 years - might have squibbed on, like the one about Fritter coming back and TMac looming and will there be space in the forward line. I know you were just setting the scene with that long question, but I do notice that sometimes interviewers - especially footy commentators on TV - will put the highlights into their questions instead of trusting/hoping the interviewees will provide the highlights in their answer. You've got the research side of the interview art down pat. Don't let my observation put you off. I want to hear from plenty more Demon players on Demonland.

Great interview, Andy, well done. Insightful questions which led to thoughtful answers. I only wish it was 2 hours rather than 20 minutes!

It was fantastic! I greatly appreciate both you and Jake Melksham taking the time to do this. 😎👍🏻

I have had no media training and in my short time in "interviewing" footy players you never know what your going to get with any given player. Jake is on the more experienced side in terms of media. I interviewed Judd McVee earlier in the year and he told me that it was his first interview and I could tell he was very nervous which I totally understood as I still get nervous interviewing players.

Cheers for that.

I personally always find it interesting to know who players barracked for before getting recruited by the Melbourne Demons.

Another rippa Andy!  Huge thanks to you, all Demonlanders who posed the questions, and of course, to Jake for his considered and informative responses.  We are indeed fortunate to have Demonland as our primary point of contact and information about our beloved Dees!

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.

  • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?
