Have we officially found our full forward?

Not a big call at all mate. He just needs to play a full bloody season please.

His marking and his accurate kicking means he's going to get 3-5 chances a game at least.

Definitely.

I see a T-mac 2018 season from him if he's down there full time.

I wonder if Petty's emergence will see us recalibrate our drafting choices for Curtin? There's no way he doesn't get to West Coast though.

After a bit of reflection, I think either of Brown, Schache or Grundy must play. With JVR now our key forward, we need a legitimate 2nd ruck so JVR can focus on his forward craft. My preference is Brown if fit than Schache. Need forwards that lead hard at the ball and they are closest to like for like with Petty. Accuracy is also key to replacing Petty, both are deadly accurate.

Petty's stretch and one touch grab is insane isn't it. Very impressive indeed.

This is a big call but on the small glimpse I've seen and with a full summer training with the forward I cannot see why he can't kick 40 plus goals next year.

It has been since he was running around at Casey in his first year. That ability to mark with arms fully extended stamped him as one to watch pretty much since day one.

Bit like Ben Brown

Full recovery, full preseason - absolutely no reason not to be > 50 goals actually.  Especially with another preseason for JVR.  They would be a very formidable combination - both aggressive, athletic, grab at the highest point and deadly accurate kicks.  So unfortunate that he has twice started to show the goods and twice injured his foot.  Any “experts” able to make observations re modern footy boots and foot injuries?

Well after watching old “yeah-no” Richo do the injury summary today, I am hereby highlighting the enormous pressure on young JvR.

All signs are pointing to his development is ahead of where we thought he would be.

But by geez, he’s gonna cop a hiding from the oppo this next month.
I hope the coaches work on methods to protect him a bit.

No Brown.
No Fritsch

No Petty

Iffy Grundy

not attackey enough Schache?

Grundy must be the bigger and stronger body to insert now and maybe Tmac’s VFL games go well and that could change.

I’m really looking forward to JvR being the ‘Man’ now.

One of the cruelest injury blows I can remember.

It honestly seemed like we had found the solution to a problem that has confounded us since McDonald was injured last year.

However, we are in a stronger position that we were at this point last season. We now have JVR and Smith as regular and dynamic contributors and Petracca has shown himself to be a potent option when played forward. Things will look even better when Fritsch gets back.

That’s as positive a spin as I can put on this one.

I wonder if we keep it simple with Petty out, Oliver in. Send Clayton to Full Forward and see Carlton’s backline try to deal with two competitive beasts up forward.

The midfield actually has a good balance at the moment. Clayton and Christian up forward could cause all sorts of trouble for the opposition.

I feel very sorry for Harrison, and those close to him. Having recovered from injury, being “found” as our full forward by kicking a six-bagger, he again is struck down by injury and his season finished. I’m sure the club, his teammates and Demonlanders will support him in his recovery and look forward to the 2024 season.

So annoyed about this injury. Sadly it was our forward line about this time last year that fell apart. It was non existent in the two finals we lost. Maybe Grundy will surprise us or some other miracle will transpire. At least our smalls are all firing. We will need them.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
