He was underrated by many on Demonland. True he was good in his debut season. But after that didn't kick on. Averaged 13 touches in his last season with us. He is a good role player in a top side though. I was probably being a but tough on him 1 Quote

He's far better than Hunter and Billings. Well Billings wasn't even there last year but he has been poor. Trade was worth a shot imo due to his talent but he doesn't have the mentality for AFL Hunter was brought in to play wing as Jordon wasn't doing very well in that position. And Hunter was pretty good in 2023 2 Quote

I think Goodwin simply didn't rate him. Quote
bobby1554 1,275 Posted September 11, 2024 Posted September 11, 2024 Who did he actually tag on Saturday? Wasn't going that great for 3 and a half quarters Quote

There was constant criticism of him in 2023 for being too slow to move the ball on when he had possession. He's been described in this thread as a "gun" and as a "hack" but he's neither of these extremes. 9 Quote

Wait till the cavalry arrives then bomb it forward. No one in the top 8 this year seems to play that way. 3 2 Quote

1 red eye 1 blue eye 771 Posted September 11, 2024 Posted September 11, 2024 Gus’s retirement has sent a shockwave through the list. He was obviously a shocking loss but it seems he was more of a key component to our structure than we previously realised. His retirement after the trade period is what has thrown us into dare I say list disarray. I watched JJ at Optus live and posted how composed and calm he was with the ball, clearly a fine young player with a bright future, still developing, and had the potential to become a key component in our team. If Gus retired before the trade period I expect James would still be on the list and would have played 24 games for us this year. Go JJ. A re-structure is needed. We rebuilt quickly after a terrible 2019, 2024 hasn’t been anywhere near as bad as that but we again find ourselves with a good draft hand, we’ve done it before and I’m backing us to again re jig the list and be there about s within the next couple of years. 4 Quote

Do we have a good draft hand ? Sure we have a top 10 pick but that’s due to our poor performances this season and nothing more - our second round pick we gave away for a bloke that didn’t really fire a shot (we may get it back via ANB) but overall I’d say we have an ok draft hand but not one that is by itself going to reset our list For us to improve next year we need - a much improved game-plan - some luck with injury - some improvement from existing players that haven’t contributed much to date or in 2024 - some smart recruiting to compliment point one and/or fill gaps in our list (I’m not confident about this one because recently our recruiting has been very sub standard) - and finally no distractions just a unified focus list hell bent on winning a premiership 1 Quote
