The best batting coach I had was a world class bowler. One of the greatest swimming coaches of all time - couldn't swim. It is beyond dispute that there is little correlation between a coach's competence and their capabilities as a athlete.

The point is that our Ruck Coach has had the forward job for 3 years and it's still a mess. How long does one get to stay without change.

AFL site does that you have to refresh for it to show half time.

No he is asking why how long for the quarter did something happen?
Would have been getting Mitch Owen off the ground no doubt.

I just caught up on the actual west coast Hawks game and the fact West coast only kicked 2 behinds in the final half. That's terrible. Imagine those poor fans who flew from Perth to the game

They probably consoled themselves by getting stuck into the boooooze on the flight home.

Stafford:

  • coached the Premiership winning forward line in 2021, and in
  • 2023 is coaching the highest scoring team in the comp to the end of round 10.

Melbourne's averaging 107 points per game, up from 90 in 2021, and has increased its scoring efficiency by an unprecedented 20%

I would say the problems with the Deez ATM lie elsewhere.

Wait and see how he goes when Wright  and Jones return. He is playing with more run and leading I admit but for how long.

And that is the question, can he do more when they are in.

Well if you were coached by a world class bowler he would have been around world class batsman and world class coaches and would have gained knowledge from them to be able to teach you, as for the swimming coach the two main teachings in swimming are arm technique and kick with turns added, there is more but they are the main ones.

Who would you rather get coached by Nick Riewoldt, Jonathan Brown etc or Greg Stafford or are you saying that Stafford is a good forward line coach?

Great player does not necessarily translate to great coach.

Swimming - "move your arms, kick your legs and turn at the end of the pool" -  LOL

How true as senior coach, but a good forward couch at this level is needed especially with young forwards coming up learning the craft is invaluable.

Also..

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
