Having said all that, it will be interesting to see if we tweak the system without Oliver. When you no longer have the best contested player in the competition, it's a risky move to go -2 or even -1 at the contest.

I think Max and Grundy can’t win with our stoppage setup even with Clarry. It cost us 2 direct goals that I saw. It should be a strength but is a weakness and too many clearances against us this year are just the opposition running away easily. 

After your post re we had this tactic in 2021, I used it as an excuse to watch the 2021 PF and GF again (any excuse right).  I only found a couple of stoppages in the PF where we were -1, and none in the GF (we were +1 in a quite a few). I’m fine with tweaks but concerned that Goody gets fixated on his ideas and sticks with them for 2 years.

Finals tend to be more 1v1 though. We tended to roll up a winger like Gus to back of stoppages in 2021, but I think if you'd chosen a H&A game, we'd have been going -1 at stoppages or finding ways of generating the +1 behind the ball.

Its a telling stat isn't it. Even though Freo are (this was news to me) a strong stoppage team and we didn't have our a-grade ruck, it doesn't alone justify the result.  Not even West Coast or Norf in the recent years gone by have been beaten that comprehensively. 

Well we won the clearances against Essendon.

Oliver has been in and out of form.

Tracca is injured.

Viney five disposals down from last year.

Max has been out.

And we need a replacement for Sparrow.

Rivers has stepped up at least.

Hopefully Oliver will return to his best.

It's not like it's a recent issue. This has been going on for years, however its never been this bad

Given how quickly we have fixed up the forward line, I expect the clearances to be sorted by some time mid 2028

Positional settups are GARBAGE This grappling hold thing does my head in, lets try something different?? I know... what about backing the comps NO1 Ruck to win a clearance and have set plays and positioning that doesn't require GRAPPLING!

This thread is a fabulous read. Kudos to all who have contributed. 
Yesterday comes down to one thing, Workrate. 
The boys out there were not hungry enough to get the ball and help each other to dispose of the ball, when we got it. 
From the first bounce, the attitude wasn’t there. 
Yes we were up against it, but there was no fight

To lose Clearance 16-47 is shocking. 
It all comes down to hunger. 
 

The Hunger to win has been sporadic all Season. 
That is on Players and Coaches. 
 

Look at Hawthorn, they are coming, and they will stay up for a long length of time, because they demand it. 
 

 Nothing will change playing Viney every week.
