I think you are right about the ball bouncing out of JVR's hands when marking, though I don't think it is the positioning. Hands are too stiff, no give when the ball is there. He has buckets for hands and I can see him developing those grabs, which he can take (training observations). Could be related to "not being loose as a goose" when playing. Give him some time, a few great games and he may be able to show us something. At least he is bringing it down for the front and centres, which appears to be be the instructions.  

You'd be forgiven for thinking Jacko had been subbed off. Pretty much unsighted in the second half

This is just embarrassing for Freo. Home games wins are a must for interstate teams.  Without them you do not play finals.

So neither W.A. team is fielding a competitive AFL side this season and neither will make finals.
