By my count, I've posted 25 of these brainteasers over the past couple of years.

This is the last of them and, fittingly, number 26 has the letter 'z' starring in the title.

Today's team is of varying quality with some very good footballers, some not so great players and others nobody's ever heard of.

What do they have in common?

Answers in a PM of course!

B:          Tony Free     Bradley Sparks     Albert Proud

H/B:     Jayden Short     Paul Dear     Conor Stone

C:         Michael Long     Simon Black     Jason Wild

H/F:     Jason Love     Jonathon Brown     Kieren Jack

F:         Kerry Good     Max King     James Cook

R:         Peter Street     Nathan Jones     Scott West

I/C:      Herbert Friend     Brad Shine     Jordan Sweet     Leo Little

It doesn't actually, a Jones is a compulsive desire to fix something.

Come to D'Land for an education; thanks, MD! 🙂

Though I do note from Samuel Johnson Google that it is 'informal', 'US', and arising from drug culture. So I'm not surprised it has escaped my attention! 😉

It's lucky for you that this is not the correct answer, Mr. Rackham.  Responses in a PM please!

Another one?  OK then.

In addition to the clue hidden in post #3, I can reveal that the injury sub for this team is Peter Light.

Au contraire Trab! I am a zed man.

In response to a few suggestions along the same lines, please be advised that the answer has nothing to do with grammar nor is it related in any way to movies.  Having made that clear, here then is a pictorial hint:

Great God above.

I don't know how this appeared as a post and not a DM, which was what I was attempting. I'm playing Demonland the way the Aussies play spin. Just as well my answer was wrong.

My apologies for (nearly) wrecking the quiz.

As an aside (indeed, as an A(ustralian)side), Leo Little played on the winning side in this game:

He's the second player from the right in the back row in the team shots of the blue, Australia-map team, and the white-shorts No.5 in the match footage.

Later wounded, he did make it back, joining the Fuchsias in 1919 after playing with University when he joined up.

What a time. Lest we forget.

...and this albeit fascinating and sobering rabbit hole got me no nearer to the answer @Demonstone!

Kudos to @WalkingCivilWar for nutting out the correct answer.

You must be SO tempted to drop some clever hints, @WalkingCivilWar🤓

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
