Taken in last year’s mid season draft, the talented key defender from Albury was Melbourne’s only first year AFL player but lasted less than half a game after suffering a facial injury against Collingwood. Returned to play in Casey’s premiership and is considered a prospect for the future.

"The key defender signed a two-year contract extension in July. He will remain on the rookie list for next season before he is upgraded to the senior list for 2024. The Demons’ second selection in the 2021 mid-season rookie draft, Turner made his debut in the Queen’s Birthday clash against Collingwood but was subbed out of the match with concussion and a fracture to the face." - Herald Sun

Like the look of this lad....

Really like the look of this kid. First in line for a key defensive spot behind May, Lever & Petty. If we decide to use Petty as a key forward then I would expect Turner slots straight in. He may even get a round 1 spot regardless if we end up with five on the interchange next season.

Daniel Turner was a great pickup for us and like everyone on DL I can see nothing but upside for this budding defender. He is a good size but needs to bulk up a bit 6-8 kegs, I feel that he has a bit of flair and a bit of mongrel as well, key ingredients for a good defender.!!

That's all very possible and sound, as well. Blood 'em, particularly with skills like some of these Casey boys possess. All we have to do is enthuse Badloss.

Been keeping a close watch on Daniel and had the opportunity to have a chat with him at the B&F. I asked if he had grown at all since arriving and he said he was now 195cm. Also asked about working with May and he was very appreciative of the help and instruction he was getting from him. He is a terrific young fellow and definitely has that determined look about him when he is out on the field. I can see him getting more chances next year.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
