No unfortunately, it's solely an homage to gonzo journalist Hunter S Thompson - Dr Gonzo is the alter ego of his sidekick/attorney Oscar Zeta Acosta in Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas.

I will say, if anyone knows the meaning of my user name and where the band got the word from (without googling!) I’d be very very impressed.

I assumed it was a biblical place or mythological name, like Golgotha

I didn’t Google but I’m with a fairly nerdy friend rn and he says it’s from Lord of the Rings (?)

Boom! But what is it from Lord of the rings for 10 points!

Nope as WCW said it’s a LoTR reference

I meant where the band got the name. And Gaahl is still a weird unit, saw him a few months ago, but the band had the name well before Gaahl joined.

The story behind the avatar is that it was meant to be a send up of Clayton Oliver. I had Photoshopped an avatar of Darcy Parish as an oompah loompa (as he used to have the Oompa loompa hairstyle) in anticipation of us drafting him way back when, but had to come up with an alternative when we picked Clarry.

My nerdy friend has gone and hasn’t answered my text. So ima guess that it’s a weird-a** creature  just like every character in LoTR. (???)

Edit: I know it now. It’s a part of Kardinia Park aka Mordor.

Had a 17yo friend of my son’s over last night and she’s obsessed with Slipknot, roping me into watching clips of them. Gorgoroth make them look like The Wiggles.

Oh yeah Slipknot is the kiddy pool.

There has been multiple singers, hope you chose one of the better songs/singer 😬

Rather than throw a dart I put some thought into the selection. I chose the song with the closest to pleasant title (or the least disturbing)… “Prosperity and Beauty.” But there was nothing either prosperous or beautiful about it. 😳

And now I think everyone should watch it coz why should I be alone in not sleeping a wink tonight?!

Ahhhh, Gaahl was the singer for that, he is my least fav singer, needed to listen to something from

Quantos Possunt ad Satanitatem Trahunt

That’s my fav album, try Prayer or Rebirth 😃

And big props for listening to them.

What I normally say to people when first hearing extreme metal and especially some facets of it like Gorgoroth is try and hear the vocals as an instrument more than vocals. But then I’d usually use different black metal bands than Gorgoroth to ween people on it, like something from Atmospheric Black Metal sun genre… 😄

I listened to both of those tracks. Gotta say I didn’t totally hate them. They’re quite the lyricists, huh. Not that I could understand a single syllable of what he’s singing but I had the lyrics up on Spotty.

Put it this way, I’d sooner listen to this band than Ed Sheeran or Bruno Mars etc.

“Atmospheric Black Metal Sun” genre  is the kid gloves starting point? Entry level???? Okaaay 😳

Ha ha that should be sub-genre.

And only entry level to those who listen to some metal or punk and looking for something more… next level 😅

Tbh their prob is as there are so many.
I mean Uada worship the old moon gods/cycles, lots of pagan bands etc

suldusk from melb are a fav, she sings 95% clean vocals,

Drudkh are a Ukrainian band that put music to old Ukrainian poems and folksongs

There is a sub genre DBM or DSBM - Depressive (suicidal) black metal which is slow and heavy but eerily beautiful.

None is one of the best bands in that genre.

Hope I’ve opened your eyes to a different world and I’m stoked to hear you didn’t hate it 😄

  • REPORT: Brisbane

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.
