Anti-Saint 246 Posted August 28, 2022 Posted August 28, 2022 hi all the only stat that matters is winning but while we await another win reflect on this (the modern era but if we went back into our domination of the 50s and 60s this record would be even more impressive): 1987: 2 wins from 3 finals 88: 3/4 89: 1:2 90: 1/2 91: 1/2 94: 2/3 98: 2/3 (stupid Final 8 system then deprived us of a flag) 00: 2/3 (only year until last year we got a week's rest in the finals) 02: 1/2 04: 0/1 05: 0/1 06: 1/2 (we got rid of Mini-Bus Thomas from St Kilda with that one win) 18: 2/3 21: 3/3 Tallies: 21 wins from 34 finals It would seem as though we have a reason to be confident going into Friday based on these simplistic stats? 5 1 Quote
jnrmac 20,385 Posted August 28, 2022 Posted August 28, 2022 err not for these stats , no. Our best simply stacks up well against everyone else and we are battle hardened. Other teams won't want to play Melbourne in the finals. 1 Quote
Bring-Back-Powell 15,562 Posted August 29, 2022 Posted August 29, 2022 Excellent effort you've produced. You certainly can't accuse the MFC of being a choker in finals over the last 35 years. Touch wood. Do you have the record of Melbourne V Sydney games at the MCG from 2002 - 2022. It's quite frankly horrifying. Quote

Queanbeyan Demon 7,050 Posted August 29, 2022 Posted August 29, 2022 @Anti Sainthas made a good point. We've bought some careers to a close, including Mini-Bus (i.e. half a coach). And BTW - one of my great days as a Dee was being at the MCG on 13 September 1987. Completely pants the Gerard Healy Swans in front of 80 thousand. Sugar was great. I remember yelling to Gerard, "hope you learned something about loyalty today Healy". The cheer squad went crazy @WalkingCivilWar:-) 2 Quote

Apparently he used to like to be first to run through the banner, that is, until he ‘cut his forehead on a piece of tape’ and let the banner crew know all about it. From then on he’d hang back lest he sustain another such ‘injury.’ Diddums 😭 Quote
In Harmes Way 7,871 Posted August 29, 2022 Posted August 29, 2022 I'm not sure who's older - our 1987 finals team or this year's Geelong side. Might be a good game. 2 Quote
