All roads lead to Berlin.

My second favourite city behind Melbourne.

Have you been to the Ramones Cafe/Museum? If not, go!! It’s a great way to while away a couple of hours.  I loved Berlin and love Melbourne, but my favourite city is Tokyo… it has everything and more.

I’d suggest people use a VPN like ExpressVPN which is expensive but does seem to work - my friend in Bali uses it (and the people at ExpressVPN are very helpful if you have problems). There are a couple of others which I believe will also work: Surfshark and Nord but I’ve not used them.

Will be watching in Ho Chi Minh, my GF access? (if we get there) Haven't decided who gets it yet.

Are you living there. I’ve been based Vung Tau until Covid. Back in Melbourne for September!

Clearly a man of discerning taste you are.

However, the next question would be: which area in Tokyo do you like the most? That will definitely say a lot about you!

Will be going in about three weeks, dates unfortunate.

Where do I start? I love the Kabuki-Cho area of Shinjuku, particularly the narrow bar lined lanes toward Hanazono Shrine, parts of Tawaramachi near Asakusa where there are streets full of shops selling display ‘food’. Parts of Asakusa I like, and a great memory was going to one of the oldest restaurants in Tokyo, the Sometarō okonomiyaki restaurant.

When I first stayed in Tokyo, Yoyogi Park near Harajuku used to have the street running through it, lined with bands and rockabilly dancers, all performing at the same time. The problem is that the noise police moved in and now only the rockabilly dancers are still there.

Places I avoid are Roppongi and, to an extent, Ginza. But Akihabara (the electronics district) is enjoyable if done in moderation; best time being on the weekends they close off the street and you’ll see a lot of cosplay action going on, and the Meido (Maid) Cafes are definitely pretty out there.

Just an unusual aside:

As I mentioned earlier, I’ll be in Bali until the morning AFTER our first final🙄. and I was relieved that the ABC has a coverage here on the hotel room tv ,however I was amazed to discover the Storm game televised live last night without ANY commentary.. the only audible sounds were from the referees and a few errant swear words from players.

I’m not sure whether this would be preferable to hearing BT’s ramblings and histrionics… oh wait.

Am in Helsinki for 1st Final, fast streaming net and mad sports friends, Sudan for the Grand Final sadly, will use a diplomat mates house for the fast net there.

Watch AFL is ok, sometime the sound doesn’t run the same as the picture which can be frustrating.

As in Helsinki Sweden?

The Swedes are the Nordic surrender monkeys who gave up Finland to the Russians in 1809, Helsinki, Finland since 1917 Hyva Suomi. Spent the summer (now) teaching the Finns to kick a Sherrin

I am in India, in Chennai to be exact. Don't know anyone else  here and so it's just me watching on WatchAFL. Would love to have some company. Drinks on me if a Dees fan in Chennai can hit me up

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
