fair enough like a psychological pillow for the pain of losing - I would feel too dirty taking the cash on us losing thought!

I reckon once you're on a good thing stick to it hence my Winx example I loved that horse - $1.10 a time easiest 10% ROI in the world better than bank interest - Dees are a similar proposition at the moment can make 20-30% on a certain win pays for after match drinks or whatever

“A psychological pillow for the pain of losing” I like it.
And it’s certainly not dirty money, since if my TAB balance is substantially replenished by having lost a match, I donate half to Reach coz Jimmy. ❤️

LOL, I imagine someone at TAB looking at my betting history and being like, “pfft, this chump. Does she even know how to odds?”

Gambling is stupid if you let it dominate you. Personally I put $ on our opponents every week and I’m thrilled to say that I’ve lost so much in the recent past. Pre-2021, not so much. It’s usually only $20 or so (except vs. Essendon where it’s $100 minimum, even if it means going without food and not paying rent for a week). It cushions the blow in the event of a loss (whatever a loss is; been so long I’ve forgotten).

PS: Capital B after the exclamation mark in your first sentence. Need I slap it into you! 🙄

Just send me the money

your theory is pointless!!

$100 on Essendrug!!!

F That….

Soft opposition that are not up to AFL standard. Could we fall into bad habits? What are demonlanders thoughs?

Fact of the matter EVERY GAME is a danger game, teams know they need to be switched on against us and of course they all want to knock us off our perch.

West Coast away while east on paper (I mean the tigers slaughtered them by 100+ the other week) has the potential for us to get into lazy Hollywood style habits. The Eagles weren’t great against the Lions but did put in a competitive effort. They also have players that while in their twilight, still have the potential to hurt you.

The simple answer is if we play our way and our best they won’t get close. If we go in with poor attitudes it could be Adelaide 2021 all over again. Hopefully lessons have been learned from that night.

A little harsh, no?

I don’t think it’s pointless, which is handy since it’s MY theory. 😁

And if $100 on Essendon leaves you nonplussed, get this: a few years ago I put $200 on them to beat us and talked an Essendon mate into putting the same amount on us to win. It was for sh*its n giggles, until he suggested we double it. So we did. And the Dees won. And I don’t regret it for a second. Not a single second.
Turned out he offered to give me back my outlay. Since I’m a proud person I steadfastly declined his offer for about 10 minutes coz while it’s true that I’m proud, I’m not stoopid.

This is an excellent tactic of Goodwin about respecting the opposition, gives them nothing to feed off and makes us hard to hate. Honestly I feel like we are the All Blacks of the AFL.

As someone of NZ heritage who was born in Melbourne in 1965, started following the Dees during the shizen 70’s, before spending the late 70’s in Auckland and latching onto a rugby nation who apparently couldn’t lose (and I follow them still), my barracking life always had a kind of yin-yang balance. Now all I’ve got is YIN!!! [censored] balance, I prefer this.

Betting against our 8-0 side I can’t believe that! At what point do you decide you’re throwing money down the toilet

It's an insurance bet. Let taking an umbrella so it doesn't rain.

I’ve got on Ben Brown for the Coleman so shouldn’t hurt my chances. Currently on 15, should be leading the goal kicking by round 11

we should be aiming to beat WCE by 100.

%. I know this is projecting really far fwd but we have Freo (Perth), Carlton (MCG) and Brisbane (Qld) in 3 of the last 4 weeks. Hopefully % doesn't matter but if it does I want it to be higher than Brisbane and Freo. I want us to finish top 2 and get a home final.

The next two games will hurt us if we cop injuries. Otherwise I expect we collect the 4 points with minimum fuss and move on

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
