Anyways, Goody will still be coaching, it’s just that he won’t be there physically. The real test for an assistant coach is when he’s elevated to head coach but without any input from the incumbent.
To answer the OP’s question: no, Adem is not under-appreciated. This forum alone is a testament to that.

We will get some idea in the next week. With the loss of three premiership players he has the job in front him. Lucky we are playing Hawthorn.

What a strange thread.
Yze under appreciated??

He is one of our main cogs. Coaches Clarry and Tracc etc..

the Club know what they have got, i can assure you of that
Good Coaches get poached. Hopefully Adem stays “Home” for a while

and just a word of caution.....

there is no guarantee an excellent tactical assistant coach will necessary make a good head coach

a head coach is a very different job these days in many ways, some quite intangible

I'd put money on Yze being a fantastic head coach (and possibly soon).

He's been a massive influence on the relationships in the club between coaches and players, and was asked very early in his tenure to help improve a few relationships. Don't think for one second that just because he's publicly known as a tactician that any of his other skills aren't as equally amazing.

I wouldn't say Yze is underappreciated. This football department has shown and expressed countless times what a team effort this has been. Good organisations are going to have good people that other organisations aspiring to be like that one come after. If they can offer something that we can't then it becomes more about opportunity. The soft cap also prevents us from throwing the kitchen sink at keeping assistant coaches. So some people are going to leave no matter how many hugs we give them.

I never said you stated that you said Goodwin would have to be sacked....and it is not tenable that Yze will coach Melbourne in the senior role, unless Goodwin is sacked.

It is very likely that Yze will be a senior coach... and not in the timeframe that lends itself to Goodwin exiting. He won't be senior coach at this football club...based on how the side is tracking. No one would begrudge him for applying for and ultimately attaining a senior role, actually all in the community would support it - it is not a reflection of or of not, being appreciated.

The other scenario I could see potentially playing out is one where Goody pulls up stumps and says "After umpteen years of intense involvement at the top level, I've had enough of this coaching caper for now and maybe for good?  I'm getting out now to enjoy doing other things in life" and enables a bloodless succession and hand over to a talented assistant already established within the team and club cluture, very similar to Roos and somewhat Mark Thompson did.  Perhaps that's part of the reason there hasn't been some huge extension to his current contract?  You just never know.

This was the other scenario I had thought of, and you put it really well Rod.

And if this happened, personally I think it's brilliant for Simon. Just like it was for Ash Barty (of recent sports people we know in the public sphere) and for anyone living life and then going...actually this doesn't interest me anymore...time to exit stage left.

After all, it is just a game... (it wasn't in 2021!)

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
